Never seen New Order before but I can safely say that the Heaven gig was one of the best gigs I have ever been to. I'm loving the rocked up sound they seem to be going for.

I have to say that while the thread starters comments are a load of old bollocks (He forgot the first seven shit songs), BL were tonight a good £20+ quid well spent.

They're not though, are they? Especially considering that you were there tonight, so you, of all people, should realise the New Order stuff was infinitely better received than the Bloot stuff.
I fcuking loved tonight though, when all is said and done. Such a fantastic crowd out for the boys and wonderful drinks before and aft.
The band ain't all that though. They're a backdrop for folks to have a good time, and that's their limit, sad to say.
Also, someone deserves shooting for that BLT acoustic debacle. That was just fucking shit.

Yup, that we all realise - still doesn't make BL better than New Order... 
"better received" does not necessarily mean "better"
i love new order, but the first half was enjoyable precisely because of the absence of their songs and the brilliance of the new material which was played with a verve and engagement which was largely missing from later NO performances.

They won't be a back drop for me when I go see them in Chicago. Not everyone has gotten to se Barney and Steve play live 20 times like some of the people here at NOOL who are fortunate enough to A. Be old enough to have seen New Order play on more than one tour and B. Live in the UK or Europe, where they played a lot more than America.
Whatever you think about BL...Bernard Sumner and Steve Morris are two of THE most important and influential musicians of the past 30 years. I couldn't believe I was going to see them play in Chicago on 2005 (and the Chicago show was probably the best out of the four they did in the US that year) and I can't believe I am going to get to see them play again in a month, in a small club no less.

Right. Well, I just don't have the financial means to fly overseas just to follow my favorite band tour. And in the past ten years New Order did roughly 8 shows in America, compared with, uh, well, more in the UK and Europe.

having seen all the versions of joy division that have evolved out of em all i can say is that the sound contiues to evolve, love the c.d and love the songs more for a live airing,, in 10 years time it will b play sink or swim bernard. and yes like the line about bernard being given a new lease

As for the fact that the BL stuff wasn't as well received as the JD/NO stuff that doesn't mean that the BL stuff is crap. First off the album hasn't been out that long and people were probably not that familiar with it and its obvious that classic NO/JD would make the crowd go ape. And from where I was people seemed to be enjoying the BL stuff, especially Dynamo and Sink Or Swim.
Last night sort of reminded me of an R.E.M. gig I went to last March before Accelerate was released. The setlist featured a fair amount of stuff from Accelerate but as very few people had heard the stuff despite the music being great it didn't really get people going whereas the old classics did.
I think the BL album is a sort of either love it or hate it thing.
The BL stuff may not have been better received because most people there are unwilling to accept that there has been a change, it has little to do with how good the songs are etc etc.
The album's great and I want to see them play that rather than JD/NO stuff. Leave the past where it belongs and step into the present folks.

BL better than NO, what an insane thing to say. NO one of the most important bands of all time (to me the most important) and BL are OK. Bit of a difference.
Great to have BL to go an see live and I;m looking forward to tonights drinking and having fun at their gig, but is there really a BL song better than Crystal, temptation, BLT and even WFTSC - answer is no. But I still enjoy the BL album

Crystal, Temptation and BLT are 3 stone wall classics that I wouldnt really expect to easily bettered.
WFTSC, on the other hand, is (IMO) worse than Home, Summer Days, Sink or Swim, Dynamo, Runaway, Running Out of Luck, How Long, Split The Atom, Twist Of Fate.

I saw him at Jake's side of the stage as they played LWTUA, singing along.
Dead weird seeing him last night as the last time I saw him mingling in the crowd was at Monaco's final(ish) gig at the Scala almost 10 years ago. A decade on, completely different New Order side project and there he is again!

I did have a very small argument with Arthur Baker once. I walked into him at the bar (his bar) and spilled a little bit of his drink. He was annoyed, but was actually really nice about it. As I said to Joe Strummer, who I was standing with at the bar, he took it very well.

I think the record sales will end up suggesting otherwise...
i tried to put this to the test last night and play some New Order but my lodger told me i wasn't allowed to play New Order because they were miserable. So i didn't play them. Interestingly, that's not the first person recently who's told me what music i'm not allowed to listen to.
I think that comparing the above should solve the question, certainly concerning what the bands sound like live - ignoring the quality of recording, but paying attention to the music and the way it's presented on stage.
Especially the first clip around the two minute mark.

my original post was really motivated by how good i thought BL were last night - and i was basing that more on the BL songs more than the NO covers...

Since the Manc gig listened to NCAT lots and I have to apologise as I now agree with you, certainly Twist of fate, This is Home, Poisonous intent are better than WFTSC, this album is certainly growing on me. The best side project since the 1st Electronic album
New Order have been around over 25 years and have put out tons of material including the best selling 12" single of all time and a string of other hits and cult classics, BL have put out one album, been on the public radar for under 12 months and have played hardly any gigs.
I don't think its right to compare BL to New Order but I am loving the album, Im quite shocked at how some people on here seem to dislike it, there are some real gems on the album
