BL London Gig

Hi, I'm new here, long time lurker and have finally joined.

Just got back from Heaven and what a gig it was! It was my first JD/NO related gig and I certainly wasn't disappointed.

The main points for me were: Bad Lieutenant songs pack more a punch live and went well with the non BL songs.

'New' band members were impressive although it was a shame to see the bassist lurking at the back

BL songs were well received, especially the opening song: This Is Home and Sink Or Swim and Dynamo.

Crowd went mental for the NO songs and from Temptation onwards it was insane, everybody completely ape for Transmission and LWTUA

Moving on from the previous point the setlist seemed bigger and better. Songs that werent played in Brighton but played in London included Bizarre Love Triangle (acoustic)and LWTUA. No WFTSC (at least I cant remember if there was) and I wasnt too sad about that, I'd take BLT and LWTUA over that anyday.

I didn't miss Hooky not being there, I thought I would have done but didn't. Although this was probably because the emphasis certainly seemed on the new rather than the old which I thought was good as a trawl through the JD/NO greatest hits without Hooky wouldn't have felt right.

So on the whole a completely epic gig although I am one of those people who loves the new album.

The actual written setlist (I secured one from tonight) is the same as Brighton - but tonight they dropped Sirens and added BLT (great acoustic version) and LWTUA - the latter I heard being soundchecked from outside.

fingers crossed we get the whole shebang tonight then i would happily take WFTSC over BLT given the choice though

Point taken, although I'd never seen NO live watching them on DVD/TV etc and listening to the albums you realise how integral Hooky was to the band. Therefore watching another musician playing their part can seem odd sometimes. For example it was odd to hear Dave Kilminster playing David Gilmour's parts note for note on Roger Waters' Dark Side Of The Moon tour even though I'd never seen Pink Floyd live.

However as some of the songs were reworked and there was a great deal of new material it didn't bother me at the BL gig.

I was at Heaven last night and thought it was mega too. The crowd didn't get going until Crystal though - they should play that nearer the start as then when they played Twist Of Fate afterwards that was way better received than the earlier BL songs as the crowd were (finally) awake.

I really liked the BL stuff and thought it stood up well - but it's never gonna beat songs people have loved for 20 odd years or more - it takes time for people to become attached to music.

Bernard was a great front man as ever but I actually thought Jake was way better live than on record - his singing was good and he is a good guitarist with presence.

Stephen was MEGA on drums and I liked his T-shirt ("You Lost Me" in big letters...)

I cannot believe I saw 2 of my heroes in such a small venue and doing such a good set - DEFFO go see them if you get a chance before they start playing stadiums again!

On another note - does anyone know some or all of the music (other than Clockwork Orange) played on the intro mix before BL came on? Some of the dance stuff was really good. The only one I sort of knew was the electro-ish cover of Public Enemy "Louder Than A Bomb" (I think). A couple really reminded me of New Order instrumentals like on Salvation soundtrack.

It seemed to be better on Crystal and Transmission, but still quiet on Temptation (still great, though). I even preferred Out Of Control at London last night over Brighton, although Tighten Up still needs to be slowed down (IMHO) - still, all these are an opinion, and not a directive!

BLT acoustic, though was, erm...

LWTUA did, however, make up for that with Barney's "C'MON!"s :)

As for the Bad Lieutenant stuff, I'm still hoping that the tracks will grow on me. Hopefully when the boxset arrives (still hasn't, sadly), then the better quality on the CD will open up my ears somewhat...

(I still much prefer "Twisted Tenderness" over BL, though)

How about the audience? How many lazy bastards?

Back in Amersfoort (Netherlands), my ears are still buzzing (?), as I was standing in front (at the left) as well. But it was worth the trip! And.... I got hold of the setlist, the one of BS. Had to shout for it fot 10 minutes, but OK!

Thought is was a bit messy, but from Crystal everything turned out fine. Good show, good crowd.

Hi there, I'm new here. I just wanted to say that I enjoyed the London gig It was Heaven! :) Especially that I got to see Bernard Sumner too after! I could say I was touched by the hands of... Bernard Sumner :) I guess I was.. Confusion, confusion, confusion.. Can't wait to see BL again in December exactly on my B'Day! How cool is that! X
