Jesus and Mary Chain triumverate vs. Low-life/Technique

Most bands are lucky if they make one decent tune. The Jesus and Mary Chain had 3 consecutive classic albums - Psychocandy, Darklands and Automatic. If it wasn't for Brotherhood, New Order would have had three in a row too - P,C & L, Low-life...Technique. Whaddayareckon?

aye JAMC were ace.Psychocandy was tops. Loved April Skies when it came out.Happy When It Rains is a great tune. Was never big on Automatic though Blues From A Gun was good. Was that on that album? cant recall now. Never got into the later stuff really though

Absolute classics in my humble opinion (and the only band I can say that are consistently good live)

I love the Jesus & Mary Chain, especially their first 2 albums, Psychocandy & Darklands. I don't think Automatic qualifies as a classic. Honey's Dead & Stoned & Dethroned were better albums, I think.

New Order's best albums were Low-life & Technique with Brotherhood a close second.

I would call it a draw because neither band delivered their 3 best albums consecutively.

This is all pretty subjective and silly, and you even cheat by leaving out Brotherhood. Counting singles, they had a very good 10 year unique run on Factory from Unknown Pleasures to Technique.

What about The Fall's run in the early to mid 80s? They even had a "trilogy" of sorts. Or The Smith's short but furious history? Wire's highly influential initial run of 3 albums?

PCL-Lowlife-Brotherhood are the triumvirate in my book as, not only were they released consecutively; they all had a consistent sound and style which i think defines NO.

Movement-Technique-Republic-GetReady-WFTSC all sound very different. They still have resonance with the NO sound, but they are not the same to my ears.

Despite that, Technique was the pinnacle for me, but it comes close to sounding like a different band when you compare it against PCL-Lowlife-Brotherhood.

Many other groups have had three good 'uns in a row, but none of them grab be like NO's string of three.

i am out of line with most people though because i like brotherhood more than pcl,and i love movement for it being the first in new order terms..although i do like plc without thinking its fantastic and think lowlife and techinque are the best albums ..so wheres three in a row ?i am totally lost now

Bit of an odd comparison. No similarities with either band particularly.

With regard to the Mary Chain those guitar effects were really avant garde, but the novelty wears a bit thin after a few songs.

Dunno about their singles but I am pretty sure New Order remain unsurpassed in that department.
