If Ian had waited a bit more and Joy Division had gone to USA and released one more single, do you think that Ceremony would be bigger than Love Will Tear Us Apart is? It's on my top 5 Joy Division and New Order favorite songs.

I reckon it could. It sounds like a classic on 'Still', right from day one

LWTUA is more commercial, innit?

It's a love song, but not a love song, and has got a nice singalong chorus.

Helped by the fact its writer then committed suicide.

Ceremony's an infinitely better song though, in my opinion.

Al,

I would say that it's a song about love not a love song. Its chorus is fantastic and it brings us so many remembrances from the early days.

Another point is that Hooky still says that it's a easy song and it took them only three hours to be finished.

Ceremony is more consistent and powerful song. It makes the fans jump like wild animals :skeptic:

Ceremony is a better song but Love Will Tear Us Apart is more accessible. I always thought that New Order could have been huge if they had only wanted it. But they have always followed their own compass. Maybe facing life & death made material success seem insignificant in comparison.

Well who knows what would have happened had Ian stayed alive long enough for that to happen. I still kind of think that there would have been a jd resurgence if Ian were still alive. I feel that 'ceremony' was a more beautiful song that lwtua. but then again i like most of the joy division songs so its hard for me to choose my favorites.

what's the future for our old friend Julio? Can he put his dark past behind him? Everyone deserves a second chance don't they?

A dark past from a dark fan? :evil4:

Ceremony is a better song, the demo and live versions with Ian are absolutely beautiful. But if Ian hadn't killed himself he would have just left the band anyway after the US tour. He would have gone The way of Syd Barrett. I also dont think they would have made a big impact on the states. So many great bands have come thru here in their prime and the Americans could have cared less. But who knows, it would have been interesting to see Ian doing Blue Monday.
