Who sang Blue Monday?

Forgive me as this may be a stupid question, but who sang the song Blue Monday? I always thought it was a Joy Division song, but now I'm finding that it was one of New Order's first.

No, it was a Fats Domino song. New Order covered it in January 1963.

I'm sorry, but the year Ian Curtis died was the year I happened to be born. I only knew New Order through two of their songs: BLT and True Faith. It was only recently that my curiousity led me to dig further into the band's history.

Plus I wouldn't be asking about Blue Monday if I didn't like that song. It just happens to be a favorite--along with Perfect Kiss, BLT, and a bunch of others.

I also forgot to add that the fact that today's music is lousy is the primary reason why I've been exploring some of the forgotten greats from the past. These songs may be old, but they're treasures.

Last time I heard someone talking about this, Personal Jesus from Depeche Mode was the biggest single in the history.

Of course unless you count BM 83 and 88 together... maybe that's why.

I can't tell now if your being serious. Given 12" records have been reduced in sales since vinyl was cut off at the pass by CD's it is likely Burnt Pancake Day was the biggest selling 12". Anyway if it isn't, it should be.

Depeche Modes "Personal Jesus" was the biggest selling 12" in Warners (US) history. Having said that; WAS it Warner? Anyway, "PJ" was the biggest selling 12" on the US labels history.

"Blue Monday" still ranks highest worldwide with most recent estimates claiming that if laid flat, the pile of 12"s would reach 19 miles high...

That's funny! A good friend of mine bought the Orgy CD because of that song. I had him over my house and put on Power Corruption & Lies, and he was like "they did orgy's song" and after much laughing and falling and rolling I was finally able to muster the words... you... make... me... sick... moron... boy... the song was made like 20 years ago...

I always thought Blue Monday was sung by me as a wee 3/4 year old tyke, and that New Order somehow taped me singing as I slept.......
