Song that made you a New Order fan

Regret from Republic, I heard this on a radio station in NYC called Z100, then I bought the CD and was hooked on it, I knew of True Faith, BlT and Blue Monday because they use to play it on this radio station.

Blue Moday was when I first noticed NO,but True Faith got me into them.

Blue Monday on Radio 1 - probably played by the Hairy Cornflake in the good old bad old pre-FM days c.1983/1984.

The Perfect Kiss really got my attention, but it wasn't until I heard All The Way that I became really intrigued by the band. Then I went back and heard their early work and fell in love with it all.

I remember being intrigued but not sold by the first tracks I heard. I think one of Age of Consent, Regret, True Faith, or BLT on the 1994 best of cd must have done it. I wish I could summon that feeling of "getting" NewOrder for the first time again.

For me, the first one was "Blue Monday" in 1988 when I was 11. I fell in love with the bassline immediately.

I had a DJ friend at high school who bought SUBSTANCE at 87, and he played to me True Faith and told me "It´s the only song that I like from this double-vynil".

I don´t think so....

I became a Joy Division fan first after hearing Twenty Four Hours on an indie radio in 1988, and it's still my favourite Joy Division song. When I bought New Order's Substance of course I liked Ceremony but I couldn't really get the other songs. Unfortunately I was also influenced, as a 15 years old kid could be, by stupid journos and goths which revered the cult of Joy Division but they all basically were saying New Order sold out to the dancefloor. I bought Movement and I liked the most of the tracks, the difference between that album and the other tracks on the vynil Substance prevented me even more from accepting their evolution. Movement, to me, was their last good album, though not as good as Closer, before selling out, so I couldn't really call myself A New Order Fan. They were releasing Technique by then, and hearing Fine Time on the jukebox didn't really help. But one day I was walking and all those keyboard layers from Blue Monday came back to my mind and I just realized their greatness. I ran back home and heard Substance many more times and I started to adore every track apart from the weakest ones (you know which ones, the unholy "S" trinity). Perfect Kiss and True Faith became second and third favourites because they just had those huge tunes of keyboards and bass, and that rhythm I hated now I was loving. EGG was the perfect bridge between Movement and Blue Monday, Temptation and Confusion (even in those versions which weren't better than the original ones) and BLT became other favourites. Power Corruption And Lies became my favourite album because it had just everything, great electro tracks and great guitar pop tracks, I just found it all amazingly inspired. I loved the other albums as well, and the same Fine Time I hated became one of my favourites, I told the silly goths to fuck off and when I was ready to love World In Motion I knew by then that I became A New Order Fan!

"Age of Consent", which I did not hear until it showed up on some late-night radio show in 1988. It sounded unique and wonderful, and - hey! - it still does.

I heard The Kiss Of Death in august 1989 on my cousin 'NEW ORDER home made compilation tape'. I loved the stereo reversed channels effects, the girl voice and the powerful ending.

...and I still prefer The Kiss Of Death than his A-side

Turn took it to another level, for me.

Nothing was ever the same again after Turn, and that's the truth.

Here to stay. This song was a revelation to me, though I was listening to the music of New Order since so many years. Up to this song (and I should rather say : the video of this song), I wasn't aware of the fact that from Joy Division to New Order, this music is essential to me. No more, no less.

Regret and the summer of 93, I was young and the song brings about memories of road trips and the video is a work of art.

True Faith it was 1988...

Substance, 1990. The stores were clearing out vinyl and they were unloading it for $8, so I took a chance on it.

True Faith, although it was actually the video that lingered in my memory for years more than the song.

True Faith made me buy Substance,then I wore the needle out on Ceremony and Temptation.
