Quality weekend. I met Roy in Amsterdam and went to see Fever Ray at the Paradiso. Amazing gig, with the most stunning lightshow which consisted of one laser, three standard lamps and a guy in a big hat.
Nice early start to catch the Trans Norbert Express to Hamburg. I love Norbert, his comfy seats, impeccable music taste and no-nonsense approach to the Autobahn. He can#t dance though.
Once in Hamburg we headed for the venue where we watched the soundcheck, feeling all goosepimply when they played Transmission to us, an audience of four. We met with the band, manager and other members of the crew at various points in the day and they were all, as ever, very nice to us. I told Andy Liddle that I'd noticed that he changed the lights to Green, Blue and white (for grey) during Temptation at the Ritz, and asked him if he always did that. He replied that he'd done it at every gig since the song was written, but wouldn't be doing it that night so that I couldn't film it and put it on youtube. He was good to his word, which made me laugh as, even in my heavily-refreshed state, I had set myself up to record the event.

The venue was small, but hardly full so when the band came on stage we were able to wander to the front and stand right in front of Jake with a cracking view of the whole band. I took some fabulous pictures, and filmed quite a few of the tracks. One of the photos of Steve Morris was the best photo of Steve Morris ever, pissing on that one that Hibs took in Madrid (which hangs on my kitchen wall). The films of the band were broadcast-quality. We could have put them straight onto a DVD and sold a million. I only hope that whoever finds my beautiful camera, complete with the two memory cards full of images, realises the importance of his find and appreciates them before he deletes them all and runs of to take pictures of his girlfriends spotty arse.
Personnel-wise, the trip was top quality. The German Order are fine men, with the added advantage of being able to talk us out of the odd tight situation as we made our way around town. It was great to see Wolfram again, and as always Jert, Al and JG were great company. Sadly, thre was one bad apple; a loud-mouthed, drunken oaf with a German-sounding name and horrible taste in football.
Actually, as was pointed out by more than one person, it is testament to the power of New Order that Karl was in fact the man of the match as far as I was concerned. I'm going to pass on his kind offer of pre-derby drinks...
Another great thing about the gig was the number of people who came to say hello to us all as we staggered and shouted around the venue beforehand. I don't know whether they come on here but it was great to say hello. We met Clutch, and what a fine chap he is. Not sure that they all made of us, who were pretty well gone by that time...
A cracking weekend, anyway. Looking forward to the PSB support at the MEN, where I shall be taking pictures on my NEW CAMERA.

Had a great night! Good meeting the Vikings again. As was pointed out, is was dead-easy to get a good front of stage spot, never seen that before...Stunning performance of Out of Control/Temptation.
Ended up in Reeperbahn in a dodgy bar with marquis, his mate and our German host who's name, shame on me, i can't recall :o
Will see some of you guys in Brussels next saturday

Not sounding the same as Hooky... well, fair enough. 
Playing the wrong notes all the way through... unforgivable. 
The bass lad in Bad Lieutenant has some hefty shoes to fill indeed on the NO/JD tracks which is obvious from the sheer legacy involved. I'm sure he knows it. When I saw them at Heaven and Paris Olympia he did a pretty reasonable job on Ceremony and Temptation although he was probably a bit too low in the mix than what we're used to with Hooky. Hardly his fault. The songs were by no means ruined but there was something missing and I think he can be forgiven for not being note perfect...
Nobody can really replace Hooky on those tracks as we're so used to his style, volume and growling stage presence. Both live and on record he's obviously irreplaceable but NO aren't a functioning entity at the mo so I suppose as fans we make do hearing these tracks live where we can and BL are currently providing. Even those fans who aren't that fond of the BL album have enjoyed the live performances. It's obviously not NO so why even bother to compare? Some people seem properly outraged BL even dare to exist whereas I see them as something totally separate to New Order. I wouldn't compare them at all as they're not the same band for very obvious reasons.
I'm sure the BL bass lad can live without your forgiveness as well, Chris
