Reg was telling everyone in the pub tonight just how great the thread was and how we should all read it when we got home. 
And I've got in to find it's been deleted.

That thread was basically spiralling into a fight. We also learned of information from an official(ish) source that contradicted the title of the thread itself. It was removed for those reasons. It was also removed to restore a little bit of peace around here which worked for about half an hour in real terms probably.
Of course people are free to talk about Joy Division demos until the cows come home but that thread became a pretty nasty mud slinging contest. Bit obvious wasn't it? I know some people consider the "Community Standards" a joke but lots of posts in that thread fell well below what they set out and Mods exist to step in when that happens.

A number of us heard the sound clip and know there is some truth. A bunch of the rest sounded like complete crap.
I would prefer to know the truth and the lies rather than have it hidden from me.
I am back to my original thought, the mods could have cleaned it up.
If you want to talk about the demos or anything else JD related, go right ahead and start a new thread. Nobody's stopping you and it's absurd to suggest anyone would so long as it's not borderline slanderous or degenerates into a slanging match. Not that the original topic of thread posted by Adam was but the replies certainly started going that way.
To be honest whatever decision a Mod takes some people will agree and some people will moan as for having "cleaned it up"... HAL 9000 so you basically admit bits of that thread were unacceptable but you'd rather it was edited to your specific tastes. Don't have time unfortunately.

with the amount of reliable sources offered, i hoped we were past "fabled" or "supposed" if not, whats left then, an elaborate hoax?
edit to clarify, I speak in terms of the complete IALP demo. fabled, and supposed are perfectly legit labels for how and to what capacity the source disc in question exists or not. Peace.
I was kind of dissapointed that the thread got deleted.
I was not really that offended by anything on there. I realize you get all sorts of people on these forums. You have to take any comments with a pinch of salt. Although I suppose it was possible that Darkman (especially) and Drew may have been a bit cheesed off.
I was really enjoying the arguments going on in that thread - it was a lot of fun! Oh well now we are back to Leather Jackets and Top 5's.

Anyone any idea how much an original Ideal for Living 7" EP (sleeve folded by Barney, etc), signed by all of JD (including Ian C) might fetch?
The nool board standards being enforced is a nice novelty, although i missed the end of the thread so I don't know what mud was flung.
If this demo was posted online only around 300 people would download it; there is no way anyone would make any money out of them as they are only of interest to really impassioned JD fans, such as most of the people who post here.
They should be posted somewhere as a freebie. If the record companies wanted to make money off them they should have been the companion discs to the rereleased JD discs instead of the lazy concert discs.

An unsigned copy of Ideal For Living changed hands on ebay for over £500. And ebay is the only benchmark I've seen.
A signed version isn't easy to value due to a lack of precedent but with the kind of obsessive types who are into JD around it would only take two of them to start a bidding war and who knows where the price might end up. But you'd expect over £1k wouldn't you?. To state the bleeding obvious, it's worth what someone is prepared to pay for it, but that could very wildly depending on who's watching a bid.
The main factor would be provenance.
Hooky gave an interview recently where he said he'd faked ICs signature on many items such as record sleeves. So, in the light of that, how does anyone prove that an IC sig is genuine?. Especially something that's been signed by all the band where it's clear that Hooky had the item in his hand (and a pen in the other one) also.
Kinda kicks the arse out of this market?
So what you might have is a rare single, signed by 3/4 of the band and a potentially faked 4th sig. Now what the fuck might that fetch?!

Been after a copy of this one misel for quite a while now,wouldn't go over £100 for a "signed" copy, as far as i am concerned ,yup the item has been signed but with naff all provenance. tbh,without any provenance any tom, dick or Hooky could've signed it,in fact dare i say it,with those sigs on then the item is actually DE-VALUED and now worth considerbaly less than it should be.
However,i'm almost sure that if you stick it on Ebay some sap will pay over a grand for it.

There are LOADS of bootleg AIFL copies out there. Theres a guy sellin em on ebay for £20+ a throw.
Just after control was released then there were LOADS inc "limited edition" marbled vinyl 7's,even HMV WERE SELLIN EM FOR FOOKS SAKE!

So the internets are abuzz lately with talk of a newly-discovered Joy Division rehearsal tape floating around, featuring not one but five full-length takes on "In A Lonely Place" - the last song written by the band prior to Ian's suicide, and closing with the verse beginning with "Hangman looks round as he waits / Cord stretches tight, then it breaks...". In 1997 this song was released on the Heart and Soul box set, but ending just prior to the final verse (sensitivity reasons to his surviving family, perhaps?). So it would be great to finally hear the long-rumored full-length variant, alas the set has yet to surface publicly on the internets so we will just have to wait.
So maybe this song should stay out of the public domain.
