The guy on the jd forum, wouldn't post the lyrics to this "so called" song, in fear of being sued for copyright infringement.

The same guy, not too long ago, was happy to transcribe the slightly different lyrics to another Joy Division song (live version), so he's full of shit.

He has totally disappeared now. The story, is a really pathetic attempt to draw attention to himself.

Anyone here got any really rare stuff they want to talk about? Like a video of Ian doing the dishes or something?

If you Google "Pictures in my Mind" and "Ian Curtis" you get this; an interesting essay by someone with a familiar name.

The essay quotes Ian Curtis:

I feel it more as I used to work with people who had epilepsy (among others) and every month used to visit the David Lewis Centre as part of my job. All the very bad cases are there for treatment or just to be looked after. It left terrible pictures in my mind...

Whether or not you believe there's a lost track of the same name, I'm sure this will strengthen your belief.

My own opinion is that if it does exist, and if it's genuine, it's not much good. If it's anything like other rehearsal tapes I've heard, the lyrics will be indecipherable anyway.

If anyone offers to sell you this be very careful. However much you may want to get your hands on a lost classic, the chances of it happening are very slim indeed.

And if anyone tells you a story about a drunken night out in Stockport, let me know!

I've been collecting New Order and Joy Division since 1986. I have some 100+ Joy Division bootleg lps and around 40+ New Order. Dare I say, most of these are crap! It never stopped me collecting them and wanting to hear as much as I can.

Does "Pictures in my Mind" sound more like the Warsaw Demos (Gutz, Inside the Line etc ) style wise or is up with the proper early Joy Division stuff like Digital/Glass etc.

I'm a fan of JD/NO yet I don't see the big deal because I have a feeling this track really doesn't seem to be real.

Maybe my feelings are wrong...but not all fans have to care about these things. Some do, and I respect that though.

Frankly I'd rather hear the pre mastering versions of WFTSC then this heap of shit.

What I'm not understanding is how "great" the lyrics of "prophecy" would be. I mean, Ian wrote the lyrics, then he did the final deed... its not rocket science that maybe the two might match... its not like the two were off chance coincidences. There are many other cries for help throughout his music, this isn't the first and i'm sure, in Steve's secret tank stash, it definitely isn't the last.

Really intrigued about this track. Have to say this interests me personally way more than the WFTSC leftovers. Remember this was from the era when the band were experimenting and changing/improving their sound on a weekly basis (it always amazes me how much great stuff they packed into their short JD career).

...by contrast WFTSC was from the arse end of New Order's career (when they were simply going through the motions IMHO).

Today as a Xmas present to JD fans - Darkman has posted a bunch more information about the rehearsal tapes on JD Central. Also here are the lyrics for "Pictures" :-

If it is real, apparently Hannett and Wilson were not impressed. There a couple of other out of character tracks out there, interesting to hear but hardly changing Joy Division's legacy.

...yes I noticed that - lucky I pinched the lyrics for here before they got deleted. There was also another long rambling post about the origins of the tape. Also Darkman reckoned the first rehearsal version of Mesh was actually recorded as Joy Division rather than New Order.

I never bought or wore a Green or grey Joy Division raincoat. It's not the first time there, someone has jumped on and said they had something ultra rare and non-one else was going to get a copy. Strangely enough, the other guy who did that with the "Plan K" footage some years ago, was from the USA also, like Dickman and he had nothing either!

I used to have this cassette that a close NYC friend gave me, called Electricity, it was 8 songs on a cassette and documented the songs New Order worked on between PCL and Low-Life.... but Sumner thought it sounded too electro for 1985 and they tossed the whole thing.

Pretty sure i have the cassette in a box in my basement, if anyone in interested...

Bumped into Gillian in a baggage claim, we chatted it up over a nice Burger king lunch and she gave me a rare CD. On it we have every song on movement sung by Steve, and a rare track called "papillon". Some interesting stuff, I'm not allowed to share this though, but will post lyrics and 30 second clip later.

I've got a flexi of Curtis strumming Blue Monday on an acoustic guitar, I'd say he was a better guitarist than Bernard on this recording, very talented

I also have a super rare recording of Gillian singing Shellcock.

If the band and Debbie wanted this to be released, then they would of already. Ryan you shouldn't post samples of unreleased music; it doesn't belong to you. The band and Debbie hold the rights to all the unreleased material. I wish I would of never talked about those songs, and have learned a lession from doing so. If anything unreleased fell into my lap now, I wouldn't even talk about it. Ryan, if you have any respect for the band and Debbie, you should take down that sample.

How is Ryan's post in bad taste? I'm failing to see this? He posted a clip enough to end the controversy, but not any of the lyrics to really cause any problem with Debbie or the band. How the clip was made was in good taste.... and I think its enough to satisfy the NO/JD fan to hear even that much.

I think it's time to extend this to anyone who seems intent on slagging anything connected with the band, the former label or anything that the ex-members may be up to.

It's a New Order site, and we enjoy a good relationship with the band and associates. Whenever I meet anyone connected to the band, I'm proud of my association. At the rate we've been letting things go, this relationship is bound to change sooner or later.

Besides, the vast majority don't come on here to have their common interests slagged off and belittled.

Darkman you really take the cake! Typically full of shit and the USA was where the last total rubbish came from, a guy saying he had the Plan K footage many years ago on the JD forum , which turned out to be a lie. You are probably the same guy. We know someone on that forum has the entire version of "IALP"(and proably the other stuff), as they also posted the end, which you said thanks for doing that.

If the band had a problem with the lyrics that Ian wrote, don't you think they would have changed them? Wouldn't that have been the so called "correct" thing to do? You can understand Debbie not being happy at all when New Order released "In a Lonely Place" with those tell all lyrics in 1981! We are now apparoaching 30 years since Ian's death, surely everyone can move on.
