So the internets are abuzz lately with talk of a newly-discovered Joy Division rehearsal tape floating around, featuring not one but five full-length takes on "In A Lonely Place" - the last song written by the band prior to Ian's suicide, and closing with the verse beginning with "Hangman looks round as he waits / Cord stretches tight, then it breaks...". In 1997 this song was released on the Heart and Soul box set, but ending just prior to the final verse (sensitivity reasons to his surviving family, perhaps?). So it would be great to finally hear the long-rumored full-length variant, alas the set has yet to surface publicly on the internets so we will just have to wait.

So maybe this song should stay out of the public domain.

I'd like to hear them to be able to judge for myself,the few demo's from the '80 I have heard were tracks from Brotherhood,Sooner Than You Think,Shellshock and Lonesome Tonight.

It's either in a collection of rehearsals from '80-'84 or on the Basement Tapes 80-84 bootleg CD but a track titled "Love Dance" is actually Industrial Love Dance by The Bridge.

To be fair, it has the Blue Monday kick drum, a melodica, and a bassline that sounds suspiciously like Hooky.

Just for those who are only now becoming aware of this: the clip was legitimate, and anyone doubting it only needs to listen to this clip, Ian singing the ending of In A Lonely Place not included on Heart & Soul in 1997 -

Guzman, I never posted a sample. I think Ryan posting a sample is in bad taste. Ryan don't you think, that having this sample floating around is very disrespectful to Debbie. If the band and Debbie wanted this to be released, then they would of already. Ryan you shouldn't post samples of unreleased music; it doesn't belong to you. The band and Debbie hold the rights to all the unreleased material. I wish I would of never talked about those songs, and have learned a lession from doing so. If anything unreleased fell into my lap now, I wouldn't even talk about it. Ryan, if you have any respect for the band and Debbie, you should take down that sample.

How is Ryan's post in bad taste? I'm failing to see this? He posted a clip enough to end the controversy, but not any of the lyrics to really cause any problem with Debbie or the band. How the clip was made was in good taste.... and I think its enough to satisfy the NO/JD fan to hear even that much.

I'm glad about this.

I think it's time to extend this to anyone who seems intent on slagging anything connected with the band, the former label or anything that the ex-members may be up to.

It's a New Order site, and we enjoy a good relationship with the band and associates. Whenever I meet anyone connected to the band, I'm proud of my association. At the rate we've been letting things go, this relationship is bound to change sooner or later.

Besides, the vast majority don't come on here to have their common interests slagged off and belittled.

Darkman you really take the cake! Typically full of shit and the USA was where the last total rubbish came from, a guy saying he had the Plan K footage many years ago on the JD forum , which turned out to be a lie. You are probably the same guy. We know someone on that forum has the entire version of "IALP"(and proably the other stuff), as they also posted the end, which you said thanks for doing that.

If the band had a problem with the lyrics that Ian wrote, don't you think they would have changed them? Wouldn't that have been the so called "correct" thing to do? You can understand Debbie not being happy at all when New Order released "In a Lonely Place" with those tell all lyrics in 1981! We are now apparoaching 30 years since Ian's death, surely everyone can move on.

This site has links everywhere in all types of threads to "unofficial material", so that type of excuse is not at all consistant.
