Are we EVER going to get to hear the WFTSC outtakes?

As a fan of David Bowie as well as New Order, I've been waiting since 1995 to hear the out-takes of "1. Outside", only a few Internet leaks so far...
Hooky has stated that they were going to be released, "...then we f**kin' fell out again..."
From what I've heard, they'll eventually see the light of day in an official capacity. :)

FOOK!
Actually, Hooky did play a track from the unreleased WFTSC sessions called Sisters & Brothers (or Brothers & Sisters?) at a DJ outing one night , but I never heard any details on it

You rock! Thanks for posting that, great to hear. Definitely Barney's lyrics- that sister and brother line is like one from tighten up

SERIOUSLY? If that was left off the album to make room for 'Jetstream', then someone clearly was pumped full of drugs. ![]()
P.S. Who's the devastatingly handsome dude on rhythm bass? Monty and I, we know the burden of being both the bass player and the band sex symbol. It's the Ben Orr curse.

I think even the band think the unreleased tracks are the equal of the ones on WFTSC. They did initially intend the "extra" songs to form the basis of the next album, so none of them were chucked away on B-sides.
In selecting what did make the cut for WFTSC, it seems to me they consciously tried to cover a lot of bases - and some of them, not very well.
just founf this

Yeah it's a hard job...but someone's got to do it!![]()
Well, do Warners own the bands music as is the case with most artists? Or do New Order own the songs and then agree some sort of deal with Warners about releasing them? If it's the former, then maybe we need to do a "Petition to No 10" type thing in the direction of Warners/London. If it's the latter, then we need to do a petition type thing to the band members, perhaps roping in a certain bass player's family member? (Is that very naughty?). Either way we need to SHOUT if we want this to happen anytime soon!! And while we're at it, can someone give Hooky/Mani a kick about releasing the Freebass album?
Crumbs, only one post to this thread in the last week. Compare that to the pages of guff talked about the re-issues. That's stuff we basically already had. It seems NOOLers are more intersted in remasters of stuff they know, rather than hearing NO stuff they've never heard. It seems a shame. I don't see these unreleased tracks coming out as long as the fan base is this apathetic about hearing them.
Well, they could bring out an "expanded" version of WFTSC with the additional songs added...Couldn't they?
Debaser wrote: I suggested exactly that somewhere on the re-issues thread. No one was listening though...
It's not that people aren't listening.
The songs still require some final production work, and you have a band that isn't speaking to each other. They're all doing their own projects right now - they don't want to go back and revisit New Order. It's the exact same thing as you moaning that the fans on these boards are only interested in the remasters and don't want to hear anything new. Well, to the parties involved, those songs aren't anything new, either. They're 5-6 years old at this point.
They'll be released eventually, but it isn't going to be before the band has repaired their own interpersonal relations.
Yeah,it seems an obvious enough thing to do,after all there won't be any new material recorded by the band to add to those tracks to so why not put them out in this way.

Is that based on some inside knowledge, 50?

Nothing more than what's already been said by everyone involved. :)

You meant Bernard and Peter's relationship ![]()

I don't really think it's an issue of fan apathy...maybe things that are beyond our control as fans are hindering their release.
I still hope that M.r. A.L. or 50 can get a hand on the pre-master of WFTSC. Really curious what's on there. For example, I really love to hear an instrumental version of WFTSC and/or Krafty.
I really want to hear these other tracks.
Like others have said, have they morphed into any of the Bad Lt stuff? Remember Monaco using the Techno Track from the Ruined in a Day single for basis of Sweet Lips.
Remember hearing Sugar Cane was one of the best songs produced during the sessions.
Here's hoping something happens this year!
From what I remember at the time, New Order were quoted in having 'a creative burst' around the time that WFTSC was recorded and laid down at least seven extra tracks, some with Girls Aloud producer Brian Higgins (I think that's his name). These were meant to be better than the tracks on the album according to Barney and Peter... They never got round to mixing them at the time and then they split anyway, so unless they subsequently have been mixed down, they'll remain in a raw-ish state - for now.
As much as I'd like to see these released, there's no point in London releasing them as they wouldn't sell that well. 'Republic' aside, London Records never got what they wanted financially from New Order and the more they interfered, the worse the situation became. They will turn up eventually I'm sure and we could all wonder what could of been...

Hope their contract with London and Warner is not "eternal" like Ronaldo's with Nike. I would love to see them releasing an album with an independent record label again. Remember that JD's year phrase: "Do what we want to do".
Every member of New Order will have to die first before this is going to happen.
Warners / AOL / WaltDisney / whateverthefucktheyrecallednow will be rubbing their hands in glee at the prospect of yet another greatest hits collection and shoddy compilation/reissue/remaster...then of course, they'll get the track titles wrong or the wrong mixes, or the wrong edits, etc etc..... oh yes...

From a recent interview with Stephen Morris here http://www.electricity-club.co.uk/html/int_morris.html
I've heard that NEW ORDER have got an album's worth of material in the can, is that true?
Not an album's worth but we've got 7 songs left in various states of assembly. And they're pretty good. Doing an EP of them will be a great thing to do. It will happen one day, I'm sure it will. It'll keep the record company going on...

I read in a Bowie interview with "Record Collector" magazine taken a few months before the release of "1. Outside" that Bowie had simultaneously recorded a more instrumental companion disc entitled "Inside" that he was going to release a few months or a year after "1. Outside." I never heard mention of "Inside" ever again. I would love to hear anything relating to these sessions!
Knowing NO they could leave these in the vaults forever to tantalise and fascinate the fans! On a more concrete note (and I know I've said this before but...) this project seems pretty fraught to me. For a start, if the trax are incomplete, surely the band'll have to reconvene to finish 'em off - and there's precious little chance of that happening, certainly not for a handful of songs they rejected half a decade ago! I guess one member could do a kiss-of-life job (like Bernard on some of the 94/95 remixes) but nothing's been announced and they seem (by their standards) very active with other stuff: BL (new album), The Light (gigging), even the Other Two (new releases)... Plus, how'd London get 'em out? It's been 20 years since the days of Factory one-offs, I reckon London wouldn't settle for anything less than a full-on single-album-tour burst. They COULD go on a WFTSC remaster, but (a) they don't have much of a track record in that department and (b) it'd be odd to remaster a comparatively recent release. Obviously I'm as much in the dark as anyone else, but all in all it looks iffy to me.
yeah, if these are not completely tracked, then there is no way they are going to finish them. it is really rare for an artist to go back and get into the same state and feel like finishing something done years prior - you mature, you evolve, you listen back and you are not going to be excited, you would rather just write entirely new material. the music gets stale the longer it sits on the shelf.
i know there are some rare instances, when an artist will go back in time and retouch an old unreleased song, drop some vocals onto an old instrumental, or do a totally new remix, but for new order to go back to seven songs half-done 5 years ago, and really want to complete them seems pretty unlikely.
now, if the songs are all tracked, and lyrics written, i could see sumner going in and replacing his scratch with some final vocals, and a third party coming in to mix and release it at some point.
but if these songs are still in draft states, no lyrics, etc, then my money is on the band (if they ever do more music together) putting out a totally new lp.
I'd just like to ressurect this thread so that i can respond to the original question with:
YEEEESSSSSS!![]()
Ahh that feels better. Very theraputic.
I wonder if any of the less optimistic posters on this thread will read back on their comments and go: Oh, I said THAT?!![]()

:p
Ah, but have the songs been finished yet? D'ya reckon it'll definitely come out in December or is that the record label jumping the gun? :)

I still don't get it.
So, these songs were completely finished and just sitting in a drawer somewhere for 4 years?
Why did they not release them back with Sirens, then?
Seem to recall Bernard wanted to do another album fairly soon and Hook wanted to tour instead, that's just before the problems erupted? Anyway back then I understood those were supposed to go on the second album but the remainder was never recorded. Might be mistaken.
Unless I misread them, I always thought previous quotes from barney and hooky and steve stated there were 7 finished tracks. as in recorded and ready for follow up album. i also recall barney saying some sounded like the killers and were kinda dismissed.
I recall Stephen saying one of these leftover tracks was his favourite from the sessions. Did he ever name which one?

No, they were mooted to be co-headlining with The Killers on a tour of either Europe or the US when the disagreements started.

Really? This is interesting, care to elaborate?

Bernard liked the idea of a co-headlining series of dates, but Hooky wasn't that keen cos he thought Brandon Flowers was a bit of a gimp.
Cue = handbags at dawn and the setting in motion of the split in ranks.

Steve and Bernard did a promo interview when Sirens 1 was being released, and were asked which of the songs from the sessions was their favourite. They both said the "doomy one" that didn't fit (stylistically) on Sirens 1, which is now called Californian Grass apparently.

So unlikely to include any 'yeah, yeah, yeah, hey now, what you goooona dooo about it?' lines in it then?

That's interesting. Would have been a smart move on New Order's part to have done such a tour, much like it would have been a very smart move on New Order's part to do an actual Tour of the US in 2001 when Crystal was a club hit and a staple at pretty much every Indie dance club.
