Yep, that's really what it comes down too.

About the NME piece that Hooky wrote, I just think that different people have different ways of doing things. Just because Barney and Steve aren't doing what Hooky is doing, doesn't mean they've forgot about Ian or JD or disrespect that or anything.

I do believe that there's a difference in BL playing a few NO/JD songs between the new stuff by BL, vs what Hooky is trying to do, though. But both sides should be allowed to do whatever they want musically speaking.

Additional thoughts- I think the answer to the question that's in the title of the blog is somewhat answered by Hooky himself in the piece. He asks why isn't Bernard doing the same, yet he wrote "But Barney’s big thing when we were in New Order was that we traded on the past too much– he actually agreed with your writer." If Hooky is aware that Bernard is that kind of a person, then of course, even if they were on speaking terms, he should know that Bernard probably wouldn't be honouring Ian in this exact manner.

As for this bit..."Then again, Bad Lieutenant are playing loads of Joy Division and New Order in their sets at the moment. Why doesn’t Rick pick on them?"

I think Hooky tends to get more criticism because of all the other things he's done...from writing the book about the Hacienda, opening a club that has another FAC number to it, making basses out of the dancefloors of the Hacienda, the speaking tour, then this. (I'm not saying that it's wrong---just a list of some things we all know he's done outside of Freebass.)

On the other hand, as much as BL are playing some NO/JD and Electronic songs at their gigs, I think they tend to get less criticism (whether that in itself is fair depends on how you look at it though), because Bernard never wrote a book about the Hacienda, he never embarked on a speaking tour, he never attempted to make guitars out of the Hacienda dancefloor pieces, and so on.

This is not an attack nor a criticism about Hooky, mind you. It's just a simple observation as to why some may be more critical of Hooky as opposed to Barney, regarding what they've been doing post-NO.

Then, as I've said, I think different people have different ways of doing things. Hooky shouldn't even have to defend himself; he should do what he likes and the people that are interested will show up. Acting too defensive will just set him up as an easy target for blogs such as FUC51 (I think that's what the blog's name is).

It'll be interesting. Not really a cash in, as it won't make much cash. If they really wanted to cash in we would have had a 30th anniversary singles boxset or something, a ship that's sailed with Recycle.

The fact that Recycle hasn't been taken down shows that there is still some Punk sensibility, as a huge chunk of completist back catalogue is now available for free.

The answer is still Hooky.

Books, spoken word tours, recreation of old albums, JD exhibitions, etc etc.

And that's not me having a go at him btw, it's his past too.

What exactly is wrong with someone, who lost a hell of a lot of money, keeping a club open for peoples enjoyment, then trying to make back a bit of money by putting on gigs, writing a book and doing spoken tours for peoples enjoyment?

I can't see how this cheapens anything, or how it offends anyone.

Well the Fatsoma ticket page initially listed it as a three day event (18th-20th), anyone care to bet on the third coming up?

The boy did the album proud, a realy great set, with a surprise encore (realy), do we have to wait 30 years for the closer tribute, anyways sure the gig will be out on dvd.

Really wasn't up for this when the tickets 1st went on sale it was bought for me & normally I'd be the 1st in the queue so to speak for anything any of them do.

But I have to say it was a really great night, great set loads of non typical JD tracks which made my night. Just wish I was going again tonight that's how good it was & hopefully Simon Topping may of learnt the lyrics to Transmission tonight.
