Success Resented

Was watching Larry King's interview or Mick Jagger, and he discussed how in Britain (at least during his time) that success is resented, and in order to stay "true to your roots" and stay a part of where you grow up, areas don't want the bands to have success.

Is this the case with NO as well? Is this the main reason Barney really never wants to tour in the US? Granted he did tour, but it seems just enough to get the NO name out there, but not enough to become as big as they could have.

Any thoughts?

I think the reason Barney doesn't like touring (any where not just America) is that he needs (or needed, he seems to have calmed down now) to get completely off his face to cope with it, but then gets ill.

Brits do seem to have a problem with success though, some places more than others, liverpool is terrible for it, the Beatles are almost hated there, scoucers always say they made there money out of liverpool then left, but I'm pretty sure the beatles income from liverpool is grossly out weighed by the income generated from tourists that even now go to liverpool for the beatles tour, museums, cover bands and shops selling as much beatles merchendise as possible. What did they expect them to do, remain in the council houses they grew up in, stopping someone that needed a house having one?

Obviously New Order aren't in that kind of league, and although they have moved, they stayed in the north west, so they are still well respected.

By the way Lennon's house was a lovely posh semi if truth be known, that working class hero stuff was stretching the true a bit!

Yeah mendips is nice, but that's because he lived with his aunt after his mum died, he was a tad posher than the rest though, Macca has put quite a bit back into liverpool but ringo as you say, just put his huge stinking foot in his stupid gob on jonathon Ross after the Liverpool 08 thing, plank. I'm probably being a bit harsh, mainly basing it on the opinion of scouse taxi drivers!!! I went to the Macca gig at anfield, and the taxi drvier that picked us up didn't have a nice word to say about any celeb, even down to Cilla Black!
