In what could be termed homecoming gigs, following a string of international dates throughout 2011. Peter Hook And The Light play two intimate concerts at The Lowry’s Quays Theatre on Friday 18th November and Saturday 19th November where the band will perform both of the Joy Division albums together in one evening for the first time.
Playing both Joy Division’s debut album “Unknown Pleasures” and its follow up, the final album “Closer” sequentially and in full, both Martin Hannett produced albums are considered seminal, much loved classics and the influence of both LPs remains pervasive today, both for fans and for the many emerging bands who take on the template of Joy Division’s sound in the modern era.
Running through the albums in track order, “Unknown Pleasures”, “simply one of the best records ever made, and still powerful enough to floor you 10/10” (NME), sees The Light start with “Disorder” and follow up with “Insight”, “New Dawn Fades”, “She’s Lost Control” before finishing the LP’s performance with “I Remember Nothing”.
The Light will then turn to Closer, whose haunting, austere atmosphere and emotive content is considered a “start to finish masterpiece”* (Pitchfork Media). As Hannett’s incandescent production permeates the record alongside a band that had grown much in confidence since their debut, Closer also yielded many landmark Joy Division tracks including “Atrocity Exhibition, “Heart And Soul”, and “Twenty Four Hours”.
Both of The Lowry concerts take place in the all seater Quays Theatre providing a new and different environment in which to take in The Light’s respectful renditions of the much admired and enduring albums.
Supports slots at the concerts are to be filled by Super White Assassins at the Friday 18th concert and humanizer on Saturday 19th, both of whom are soon to be released on Hacienda Records, the new digital label which also released The Light’s debut EP “1102 / 2011” in May of this year. Hey guys I'd love it if you could make Rome again, saw last November's gig and it was one long belter! As an important European capital, Rome is pretty useless for live bands. My Italian wife's English aunt's Scottish husband (very close) is a sound engineer - he did PIL when they toured with New Order and the Sugarcubes in 89 - and he told me Rome tends to be avoided as it's too far South and there are stupid sound regulations. There was the ghost of Hooky and Section 25 at Piper's January 2009 but it turned out to be a misunderstanding, boo. Meanwhile - keep up the good work! For every whinger there are approximately six billion satisfied customers!

I just think it missed filming the gig in Rio de Janeiro.
I was in the front row for the Unknown Pleasures show in Boston, and I'll be in the same place this time around. Odd though...the Paradise is a smaller venue than last time. It'll probably sell out pretty soon.

Peter Hook & The Light will visit Japan for the first time in April, performing at the Hacienda Festival in Oiso, a festival marking 30 years since the iconic Manchester nightclub of which Hooky was a co-owner first opened its doors.
Hooky & The Light are delighted to have confirmed live dates in Japan for 2012, particularly given the tragic circumstances which fell on the country in March 2011 leading to their original dates in Japan being cancelled.
The band will perform on both nights of the festival, performing their critically acclaimed performance of Joy Division's debut album 'Unknown Pleasures' as part of their set on the first night (April 28), before returning on the second night (April 29) to perform a different set containing a full live run through of Joy Division's second and final album, 'Closer'.
Other live acts confirmed for the festival at this stage include legendary Manchester indie outfit THE CHARLATANS, led of course by iconic frontman Tim Burgess. Hooky & The Light are delighted to be sharing the stage with The Charlatans in what should be a great event.
More live acts & DJs will be announced over the coming weeks, when tickets will also be put on sale.

Saw closer at fac251 a few months ago. It was loud. Too loud. Not a lot of musicality, rowetta still has a strong pair of lungs on her tho.
I wish this new band would play new songs and not cash in on a legacy.

Factory is not a great venue. If you're willing to let me try and change your mind about what we do, I will be happy to put you and a friend on the guestlist for the upcoming gig at Buxton Opera House on February 25th, I guarentee that you will leave with a different outlook if you give us another chance in a better venue :)
As for cashing in, no one is making a mint out of this. We're doing it because we want to pay tribute to some great music that deserves to be heard live, and as long as people still want to hear us do it then we will do it, and so far, we are yet to have a bad gig. I realise I'm tempting fate there but it's true....
As for new music, we have started that process as of a week ago. There are some interesting ideas floating around already, everyone is bringing some cool stuff to the table. So let's see what happens. Let me know about Buxton...
