Ok...in light of the heated discussions about $ and the band (members) maybe there are different avenues that PH and others could explore in order to make $.
(Yes this thread could easily devolve into a hilarious discussion of PH playing weddings etc...but that's not really what I had in mind :)
One underlying trend in the music industry is that the age of artists making $ by selling mass market consumer items is likely over...Artists make their $ with concerts now (and many are struggling with even that).
Time for Alternative Revenue Models.
- Let your most hardcore fans help to finance more music. Most of us would be willing to pony up a fair amount of $ if we got not only the finished music but also outtakes from the recording sessions (casual fans could care less...but I really like some of the extra bass lines (which were later edited out) in the premix of the Get Ready album). I would venture to say that many of us would pay upwards of $50-100 for a "special" version of the music that included...well...more of your music (even if it's unfinished)
If you could even get 500 people to buys into this model then you would stand to profit.
- Ok so people here have said that PH's bass lines are ingrained components of their lives...how about this...and yes I'm serious:
PH would basically create an individualized bass melody for you for $500-2000.
These could be recorded digitally (read cheap) and would just involve Hooky sitting down and coming up with some riffs etc. The finished melody would only need to be 5-15 minutes long.
Those of us that are older and more established financially would find this in an acceptable range (my wife could give it to me as a gift for example) and we would certainly treasure having something of our own created by PH.
This would be a rewarding 1/2-1 hour for PH and he could rest assured that what he was creating was being valued.
This model also works for a group of people...lets say 15 of us pitched in $40 to get a new "Hooky" melody that was sent to only us...I would be up for it and am pretty sure others would be as well.
2a. As an adjunct to the above...PH could record a half hour/hour of himself playing bass and/or writing music once a month and sell a subscription service where for $25-40/month the subscribers would essentially get "pure" PH in the act of creating.
This surely would also be profitable...and would only require a minimal amount of time to set up.
I'm sure I'll be flamed on here because of the $ involved...but lets be realistic...other forms of artistic entertainment cost big $ as well.
Concert tix are now $50-100...I'm taking my wife to Cirque du Soleil (sp?) and tix are $150 each...now I ask you...really...what would you rather spend $150 on...3-4 hours of pure PH creating music over the course of 4 months or a Cirque ticket where you spend 2 hours of your life and then its gone.
Sporting events are also expensive...I'm sure that many on these boards go to premiership games...again...what would you rather spend your $ on...a one time event (that you could watch in high def at home) or hours of one of your favorite artist creating music?
