Stephen Morris electronic drums or acoustic drums?

I'm not sure if anyone ever took any notice of the fact that when New Order toured from 1998 on Stephen had an electronic kit, which I didn't like as much. Now in BL he's gone back to the acoustic kit live, which suits there music better (and his playing). If new Order did ever play again, I hope he goes back to the acoustic kit.

I prefer him when he uses a combination of real and electronic drums which he did 82-93 roughly, and is currently using with Bad Loo. But I do think he sounded good using the electronic Roland Kit with NO 98-06. There is a really good interview with Steve that someone posted on here recently where he talks about the differences between using the two.

Yeah, not only was he using a combination of acoustic and electronic drums live in his kit but he was triggering sampled drum sounds from Octopads and also running the drum machine patterns on his Kurzweil sampler.

I think he did what a lot of drummers did: come up with original drum sounds in the studio and then sample them for live work because as far as I know he didn't use a battery of drum modules and samplers live. I own the E-mu Pro-Cussion he used for a while. It's quite a beast.

So that's why Steve would have his Kurzweill synth set up next to his drum kit even when NO were playing on a TV show or something (like when they did the JD only set in 06), because even though he wasn't actually playing keyboards on any songs, he was still running drumm patterns from the Kurzweill keyboard?

Also, when BL do BLT live, what sort of synth is Steve playing, he is not using the big Kurzweill he's used in the pas.t..

Thanks for your comments. Totally agree with the pre 98 combo of the acoustic kit, pads and triggers. I'm a musician myself, and what really gets me about the electr kits are the hi-hats. Anything with double hats like Ceremony, Transmission etc just don't cut it due to the samples and velocity.

I always thought BL was supposed to be more of an acoustic sounding band to begin with. Way less use of electronics compared to New Order. With New Order I like both methods of drumming depending on the particular song being played. If Steve's changed that then he should go back to using both acoustic and electronic drums should NO tour again.
