Interesting music docs about Sheffield music 80's-90's last week

Apologies if you think this is off-topic, but I don't, and should be interesting to anyone who likes JD-NO-Factory....but there's been a couple of damn good documentaries about the Sheffield 80's-90's music scene on UK Sky Arts this week. Hopefully they'll get repeated a few times so more can see.

One called "Made in Sheffield" covering early 80s - Cabs, Human League/Heaven 17, ABC. And the other, in 2 parts, "The Beat is the Law" covering everything that followed that. Bands I'd completely forgotten about for 20 years like Clock DVA, Chakk & Hula through to acid house, FON and Warp records. I hadn't realised before, that whilst the Factory story was unfolding in Manchester for 20 years there was a parallel one unfolding in Sheffield too, albeit with a recording studio, FON, at the centre instead of a nightclub. Quite poignant towards the end as many musicians reminisce about never getting anywhere or any money (sound familiar?). "Sheffield didn't have a Tony Wilson" being a repeated, poignant soundbite.

Caught part of it stateside last year pretty good, esp. the lads (forget who) lamenting that their decision to go to London to be discovered coincided when everyone went north to look for bands.

Don't worry that you missed it. If I know my Sky Arts tv listings, I'd guess they'll repeat it at least 10 times in 12 months. For example, they've put the Pixies documentary QuietLoudQuiet on about 20 times in 2 years. There's a Clash doc that's been on even more times, I think. They just had a bit of a Sheffield special week last week.

Coincidentally they're showing New Order at 2:30am tonight. Think it's an edit of the last live DVD which I think they've shown several times already in the past year.

While we are on this New Order Glasgow concert DVD, I was pleasantly surprised to find a 3-discs version of this in a shop here in Sydney...the third disc being the CD version of the concert.
Anyone aware of this revised Glasgow DVD set? How official is it?

Yup, that was the intial copies of the Glasgow DVD - sold exclusively via HMV - details here.

I don't think there were that many of them - certainly it's quite difficult to find one nowadays, so well done!

Btw, I've got that Sheffield DVD too but havent watch it yet...I'm still cursing myself for missing out on a performance (or QnA session?) by one of the Cabs (cant remmber whether it was Mallinder or Kirk?) here in Sydney early this year (or last year?)...sorry brain's a bit vague these days..:D

Im going to see Heaven 17 next week. The venue is the Devil's Arse cave. Genius.
