This week's guest is a guy synonimous in Manchester Music folklore. Chris Hewitt ran TRACTOR MUSIC which provided equipment to upstairs CARGO STUDIOS and MARTIN HANNETT,where both JOY DIVISION studio albums were recorded, plus other bands including OMD,GANG OF FOUR,THE FALL,FRANKIE GOES TO HOLLYWOOD,THE CHAMELEONS and many many more! Plus Tractor provided sound-systems to THE HACIENDA! CARGO became TRACTOR when it took over both floors of the building, and of course with HOOKY became SUITE 16 STUDIOS which is a listed building today but derelict...and leaking! Chris also manages TRACTOR the band, which he has for 40 years. He'll be not only talking about his musical past but also next FRIDAY's GIG at PMT MUSIC,REGENT ROAD,SALFORD. Where a wealth of vintage guitars and pro-audio equipment will be on show, including HOOKY's JD bass equipment which Chris' company custom-built. Hooky will be doing a Q&A with JOHN ROBB,plus playing songs live. And RONNIE LAINE's mobile recording studio will be parked up outside in full working order and on display!

So don't miss my show this TUESDAY at 9pm,and HOOKY's gig Friday 12th November 7.30pm

Tickets are available on 0161 877 6262

Don't believe him when he tells you both JD albums were done there (neither were).

And Sordide Sentimental as hinted at above.

LICHT UND BLINDHEIT (aka SORDIDE SENTIMENTAL) 7" and magazine. Sordide Sentimental SS33022

French single in a fold out magazine style cover, with inserts 1578 Copies Recorded at Cargo Studios

Note: Many Sordide Sentimental releases came in a clear plastic back with the Sordide Sentimental logo. However in 2009 Jean-Pierre Turmel stated that this was not the case for this particular release:

"The first copies of the Joy Division single (maybe around the first 1000) were sold WITHOUT a bag, and the last ones with a blank plastic bag (without any printing). We took this decision because we found this was a very fragile packaging. This is true also for the Throbbing Gristle "we hate you" single. I don't remember exactly when the the printed (with logo) appeared but it was posterior to the JD single".
