Yep, just heard that quote on Soccer AM Sky Sports show.
They've got Manchester band, Hurts, on as guests. They bumped into Mr Chan touring Japan, said they were from Manchester and he replied he liked Joy Division. I wasn't expecting that. That's up there with George Michael once saying Closer was his favourite album.

I remember that! Were they in the same recording studio or something? I recall reading that Michael was really interested in what they were doing and ended up sitting and listening to the Raise The Pressure tracks. What struck them was the way he just sat there drinking it in (he was probably off his face). Afterwards they said their goodbyes and Electronic were mortified because thoughout it all they never once asked him how he was doing with his record.
I always scrutinised (but just the once) subsequent George Michael singles for any trace of Electronic.

Kinda joking, but Jackie Chan is supposed to have many albums of pop music, yes as a singer.

His fight scenes are always amazing, ok they're choreographed and sped up a tad, but they're entertaining.

From what I remember, Sumner and Marr said that they played their entire new album at the time for George Michael in a club and that he said he really liked it.
Like my old granda used to say (quite appropriately in this case) 'this story's a bit like a bucket of shite from China....far fetched'. Methinks the Hurts fellas are having a laugh here.

Yea I remember reading that somewhere ...Georgie did mentioned a particular song in 'Closer' that meant a lot to him, I believe its '24 hours'..or 'Decades'??

David Walliams: When I worked with George Michael on Comic Relief, he said that when they were in Wham! they used to listen to Joy Division all the time. When I asked them if there was a part of them that really wanted to make that type of music he said no. He just accepted that they did one thing and Joy Division did another.

I remember a music review show hosted by Robin Denselow in the early 1980s on TV (BBC2) on which George Michael said that side 2 of Closer was some of his very favourite music.
If George Michael had ripped off Raise the Pressure... would have anybody really noticed or cared? Raise the Pressure was not a commercially successful album, and George Michael was well past his commercial peak. Michael probably just did some unoriginal bland house inspired kinda gay stuff mixed with 80s retro stuff, which is how you could describe Raise the Pressure also.
