IF, is a big word here. As my Mum would say, "if your Aunty had balls, she would be your Uncle"!!
So, getting over the major IF, would people prefer they got back on the job of just playing New Order, or still incorporating Joy Division?
Would you rather hear tracks like 'Age of Consent' as opposed to 'Love will tear us apart' etc etc. This is just an example.
i know all the money in this age of torrents is in playing live, but i would rather see them write in the studio and not necessarily play live, like The Beatles final years.
maybe a few special shows, but no tours.
but, hell yes, new recorded songs would be sweet.
Joy Division is getting played out... especially with Hooky milking it on the recent Light tour.
Ever since the Control movie came out, everyone and their mum is into the Ian Curtis myth now and you can really see it in the crowds.
I'm a bit sick of it myself. The revival happened, let it die now.
I say, take Bernard's lead and look forward to the future. My personal opinion is that IF New Order comes back, they should just be a studio band. Record some kick ass innovative tunes (Behind Closed Doors for example) and fuck touring and catering to the masses. Touring has been the death of this band every time.
IF they ever reform (and I kind of hope they don't), then they should just be NEW ORDER, the world is getting very bored of Joy Division.
For me, IF they reform they can do whatever they please except release another bastard singles compilation.
I think they should do albums tours, from Movement to Republic, in little clubs and just live a wandering life for a year. From Johanesburg to Vladivostok to El Paso. It may generate their creativity.
I agree with the "give Joy Division a rest" notion if they did reform. If "New Order" reformed I would expect it to be mainly about "New Order". I'm not expecting them not to play Transmish or LWTUA as they have been for years but a bit of focus on the post-1980 music is long overdue. Also if they reformed with no plans for new music then I'd really rather they didn't. Yes the bills have to be paid but try and make it a tiny bit about the music.
Naturally not knowing the ins and outs of present band relations but with Bernard seemingly content making music with Bad Loot and his various other collaborations I don't think a reunion will be happening any time soon. Similarly like or loathe the Unknown Pleasures tribute Hooky seems very happy with The Light so neither appear to be at a loose end. Also Hacienda Plc is chugging along in the background.
Steve should just give in to fate and become a full time Radio 6 DJ... he'd be perfect for that 
Bad Lieutenant should give a concert on Bernard's yacht and broadcast it live. I'd love to see a piece of the Canar sky with some great music on this winter day.
I'd love to see them do a few one night gigs, hell they could even do a republic set, and I'd still see them. The only downside is theres likely to be less witty banter.
Unless the background issues have been resolved theres the potential for a come-back to be a very forced, cold and emotionless event. For them and us.

IF they were to reform? Then they should add the subtitle 'The band that breaks up and gets back together more than a typical bickering family' to their name.
I would love it, but they would need to have creative freedom. As Hooky said, NO has always been quite different in each LP, but WFTSC sometimes is different in its essence. And please, no fucking guests, Ana Matronic and Billy Corgan were bad enough.

With that being said, I'd proabably still buy a new singles set if they released one..hah! I can't help myself, I need medical attention.

At the Apollo in 1998, the sheer number of JD songs - more than ever before, three never before played by NO - was stunning and revolutionary. By 2006 it got to the stage of "Transmission", "Love Will COME ON!", "She's Lost Control", "These Days", "24 Hrs", "I Love A Party With An Atmospeher!" being played almost every darn night in the same setlist spots. Predictable. Boring. Nostalgia. And
If they reform, for heavens sake, ONE JD song a night, at most. It's not JD anyway : it's New Order. There's dozens of NO songs we've not heard live for 18 years - "Face Up", "Age Of Consent", "Dreams Never End", "Round & Round", "Vanishing Point", "World", "Mr Disco", "1963", "This Time Of Night", "Sooner Than You Think", "Leave Me Alone", "Thieves Like Us" - for starters, that I think the JD songs can rest. Forever.
