Recording vinyl onto PC

I don't think this software has been mentioned before - it is only £29.95 and seems capable of recording old vinyl / cassettes etc. onto PC and has functions to clean the sound up somewhat.

I know this is an unconventional idea folks but here goes: Spend around £180 on a top notch VCR, connect your turntable to the audio inputs and record your vinyl onto high grade VHS video tapes. Connect the VCR to your hi-fi and use it in much the same way as a conventional tape deck. I assure you the sound quality will be comparable to a tape deck costing three times as much and will produce results which only DAT can better. Also, you get the benefit of the full sonic range vinyl offers as opposed to the 'clipping' you get with cd. Try it.

And up to 3 hours recording time. The walkman however is a hell of a size.

For 30 bar it's a cheap method. Not everyone has the ears of a dolphin.

Nothing beats DAT ... and that's official!

At least with the Clean product you shovel in a CD and burn your wares without having to read a schematic diagram and be concerned with the chemical compound of a piece of magnetic tape.

You're right Hunts, it's not rocket science. The fact is though that none of these 'clean up' packages are any good. S-VHS doesn't help the sound but yes, generally at that price you'll get a decent S-VHS vcr. Always worth it for the superior picture quality, especially if you have SKY or digital cable fed to a 100hz tv. The sound is very close to the quality of DAT but NOT better, there's no format beats DAT except SACD, which knocks it into a cocked hat but will never catch on as a recording format now that we have DVD.

Not as much as my 6 year old daughters Taekwon-do teacher charges me so that i'll be able to sleep at night while she's loose on the streets. A sign of these horrible times I fear!
