Well, at least Substance 2002 is an improvement on the last Best Of.

Patty Cake, the Spice Girls last album was an improvement on the Orders' last 'Best Of'. I'm sure you'll agree. :)

..... and nothing from Technique or Republic?? How odd!

Good to hear from you, Muffy!

I confess with embarrassment that I have not actually heard the Spice Girls last album, but nevertheless I suspect you are correct.

I was about to write 'at least they didn't put another version of Let's Goat' until I re-read the track listing.

It's very distressing all this. I'm going to have to go and have a walk to get a coffee. Oh no, it's alright, I've already got one.

(No Regret! ... it's a shambles)

Anyone gonna buy it?

I think I'll wait and check out the artwork first, before deciding.

Of course, we'll all buy it.

I'm not so sure.

I have no intention of buying this. For example, I've got about 9 hundred Ceremony's - 7", 12", Substance, Live etc. - what's in it for the kids man?

Yet another wasted opportunity.

Where is the new version of TPK? ... what about the studio out-take songs nobody's ever heard? ... where is the mix of True Faith they never released? ... how come the BLT edit is not included that Hooky did at the time of original release? ... did they forget to include an amazing version of Vanishing Ping Pong?

This album is what Substance should have been i.e. including the original mixes. Thing is, they're about 15 years late. And putting songs from GR (that we've just bought twice) is rhubarb.

This is all monkey food.

This new Best Of should be called 'As safe as houses'.

It's prittle prattle tommy rot - that's what it is.

Where the fuck is Dream Attack?

At least they had the sense to put Lonesome Tonight on the Promo, but I was really hoping that this would be an Best Of that showcased more of the edgy rock side of New Order.

How many times do we need to be told that True Faith, Bizarre Love Triangle, Blue Monday etc are "The Best Of New Order" They're great songs, yes, but this album just seems really cliche New Order.

Hand on heart, did we really expect anything other than a safe radio-friendly (non)unit shifter these days ? They've lost the devil-may-care edge now, it disappeared when they sold their souls to the devil that is London Records.

I must confess nobody said it would be easy.

But, if there was ever a band stocked full of more unleashed demos and outtakes which probably (to us) are as worthy as polished releases then I've never heard of them. The great shame is thus, that they haven't the bothered for one reason or the other, to delve the archives and release what we really would like to hear ... the collection of non NO hits nobody has ever heard. I cannot accept they won't have numerous complete songs shelved near Hooky's book on home cooking.

Why not release a greatest hits as above but substituting the B-sides with unheard songs and demos. As I previously mentioned ... a big tin box with gang loads of stuff in sounds just swell.

As a NO fan I am disappointed to the point of oblivion ... and I can confirm ... it ain't pretty.

remove shellshock & 60mph replace with temptation & regret.

was expecting a double cd to be honest, suppose the box set if it appears will have the unreleased stuff, & this must be aimed at people wh ofound them through GR.

dissapointing though.

If it really is the original 12" release of TPK then that will serve as a bait to some as it has never been released on cd before. Personally I won't buy it and neither will the public at large. There should have been some unreleased gems thrown in for us to salivate over, but alas no. Another wasted opportunity.

What does "master only" mean?

Who's gonna get the promo CD and 12"?

Why are they called promo CD and 12" since they don't contain any material from the best of? Or... are they intended to promote the future Recycle boxset?

I'm puzzled.

Don't shoot the messenger!! :)

Well, if that tracklisting was really selected by fans, I must say I'm not impressed.. how can a real New Order fan select Shellshock ??!?!!!

Hum, nobody talked about it, so I will..

Fine time 6'15 ( Silk Hurley mix ) Master Only

Is that the Silk Mix? (I guess so.. duh)

Round & Round 6'51 ( Kevin Sanderson 12 " mix ) Master Only

What's that? The extended mix?

Sorry, being at work, I didn't check the discography to compare the timing of the songs.

In general agreement here: this really is a lazy pile of arse. I thought the idea was to produce a "proper" collection to replace the ultra-conservative compilation knocked out by London when it looked like the Order had called it a day. Like Hibster says, the only way to do this properly would be to put out a double CD with Temptation, DNE, AOC, KW1, Lurve Vigilantes etc. Its not the re-hashing of old material that bothers me - after all it'd be nice to think that some poor deluded nu-metal teen might be converted by a "Best of...." - as much as the sheer lack of imagination involved. I'd rather stick with the "original" Best of...., to be honest. At least I won't feel obliged to buy it, so I'm glad that any unreleased stuff is being held back for "Recycle". Fuck, I hope they make a better job of that.

As some people above have suggested, just who do they think is going to buy this pointless crock of shite????

The fact that it's shite is beyond debate but it should be remembered that this package is planned for a particular territory ONLY & has NOTHING to do with the forthcoming(?) "Recycle" product. Wait and see what Christmas brings folks - it's not ALL bad news, I promise.

So, no Temptation again? How can you release 2 Best of's and not include Temptation?

From the old polls on here and elsewhere, this is nowhere near the album the fans would pick! Or is the record company gonna do another compilation next year?

Speaking of waiting Johan, still nothing received.....Sort it out ya big eedgit:thumb:

:nonono: don´t worry so much about it. it´s only a french release. look it this way. everybody that lives outside uk would love a national best of for their own. for ex. in my case an argentinian release of the best of with the songs that particullary had success here in a way or another. that would be nice and i´d be proud to buy it even if it´d have all these songs that the french people chose. think about it. an italian, a brazilian, a welsh, a german best of, etc. i´d buy MY best of, wouldn´t you?

I have to say, I think 1995's Best Of was actually a good compilation, can't understand why anyone didn't like that.
