Best of TrackListing...

Like many other posters I find the tracklisting of the new Best Of underwhelming. I cannot work out a new Best Of is being released at all given that the band have only released one wholly new album and one wholly new single since the last Best Of. I cannot work out why the three new tracks have been included at the expense of great tracks released between 1989 and 1993 and why the new Best Of has fewer tracks than the last Best Of (which itself was bizarrely limited to 70 minutes - if you're going to release a compilation CD and you've got a lot of tracks to choose from you might as well make a 78min CD) because surely if you want more people to buy the new Best Of New Order you have to offer them more than you offered them the last time, especially if the old one is still going to be in the racks of record shops. I cannot work out why the new Best Of has been made for the French market - was the last Best Of not released in France, was it banned by the French government which confiscated all import copies at its borders, ports and airports or has there been a sudden surge of interest in New Order in France? It makes absolutely no sense at all to me.

If Warner Records is releasing this new Best Of in the hope that people who haven't previously bought anything by New Order will buy it, will like what they hear and will then buy more New Order releases their money would have been better spent producing a comprehensive double CD Best Of (including singles and album tracks) or re-releasing the last Best Of album at mid-price. I suspect that the reason why they haven't done these things is because the new Best Of album is just another way of getting more money out of New Order's fans. If that is what the new Best Of is for few New Order fans are going to buy it.

and also because most songs on the album were shortened and therefore butchered e.g. BLT, PK, BM, 1963 and Shellshock.

well..at least we have one "unreleased" Track on CD this time. Or has the original 12" mix of Confusion ever been released on CD ???

I would be surprised to learn this was the case. I suggest it is more likely a sans serif question mark distorted with FX. The other rest of an inverted version.

If it was an 'no' it would be more obvious - Saville is usually less subtle once the original premise is understood.

I thought the Best Of and Rest Of designs were the same except for the color, H, weren't they?

I agree the question mark aspect is there, but in my view the "no" is also.

I agree with those saying that this is for those who just found them last year. Hopefully they will give their old time fans their due and put out an awesome box set with all kinds of rarities, live cuts, singles etc... kind of like the other non-album stuff on Heart And Soul for JD.

Although i am new here, i've been a big fan for years. The latest greatest hits is so dissappointing. The only thing i want to get is the Promo for the chance to get the original Temptation on 12" to replace my old 7" single version.

Thanks Biznotic - I couldn't have slammed it better myself. Except you forgot to end it by saying "after hearing the song, I rammed a red hot poker in my ears to eradicate any remaining reverberations from my ears"

I have to agree with you chris. i'd rather hear barney whoop and whistle through Atmosphere or even State of the Nation on repeat than turn on commercial radio.
