Bad Lieutenant doing New Order

Wow! Just saw clips of Bizarre Love Triangle, Temptation, Ceremony and Crystal on YouTube, and it sounds great!!!

I'm glad to see that my dreams of seeing New Order live are not dead after all!

I don't like it, the bass isn't nearly as good as Hooky's. In fact, I got the impression that the bassline is wrong in the Crystal video, but it might be the sound quality or just me.

It could be naïve of me, but one of those last interviews with Hooky gave me hope for a reunion. He said something about being wrong when he thought Bernard was not enjoying it and the band was doing it solely for money. I think that's a step in the right direction.

With all those guitars onstage it's almost like watching the Eagles..

Fair enough, but until we get a reunion with Hooky, this is pretty awesome in my eyes.

Not as if I couldn't see that criticism coming like a freight train in the distance. It's. Not. Hooky. Up. There. So it's not really going to be as good as him is it?! Impossible shoes to fill so no real point in giving the BL bassist a hard time, he's probably a nice chap. It would probably be far more offensive if they got a Hooky-alike player up there posturing all those stage moves. That would be far more weird than Chapman's "quieter" substitute in my opinion.

The version Bad Lieutenant played is deliberately different from the New Order version. I reckon it was a new mix Steve knocked up and fancied trying it out live, got to give them credit for giving something new a go.

It's easy to slag but I guarantee that every Bad Loot gig I went to when they played Ceremony, Temptation, BLT and LWTUA the crowd basically went fucking bonkers. You either had a choice of stroking your chin and going "mmmm yes but it's not the same without Hooky" or you waded into the crowd and enjoyed it.

I know those are impossible shoes to fill, can't argue with that, but in my opinion it should sound similar, or more different instead. It sounded like something in between, not the same and not differente enough.

But yeah, I think I'm giving him a hard time, have to admit that Ceremony was incredibly similar.

It just seems very obvious that in anything, you cannot satisfy everyone.

Thought they did a good job,, cant waite for more gigs, as its nearly a year since the camden electric circus, Cmon Barney lets go disco.

The bass may be a bit off, as has been said many times before, but I sure as fuck prefer it to upteen performances of JD crap. BL keeps NO alive and well, and who ever thought we'd ever hear BLT live again, not in acoustic form.

Completely agree. the Bad loot gigs were excellent to attend, even if on You Tube they didn;t sound so good. A gig is about the moment. Great being at the front. The Sheffield gig in particular last year was brilliant.

What I meant is what I think about covers vs. original in general, they should either sound very much alike or very different, I find it terrible when it's something in between.

Moby's Temptation vs NO's Temptation is a tribute 'done right' IMO, as well as everything from re:order. However, Fall Out Boy's LWTUA or Annberlin's True Faith sound terrible, for example.

It is what it is. If you can go see them, sure have fun. I doubt they are going to win over new fans thou.

I would prefere Bad Loo playing NewOrder Songs than never hearing them again and I personally Rate them 9/10. Hearing them again surely beats not hearing them at all. Remember You Dont Have To!

Hmm, and I hated Moby's Temptation, yet loved Anberlin's True Faith, except for the dodgy "displaced by fear" bullshit. What was wrong with "replaced"? It actually makes sense, the "displaced" does not. Ugh. K, maybe Anberlin's version was garbage. But the music itself was pretty good.

Bad Lieu doing New Order is a worthy experience : stylistically BL are to me the equivalent of the post Roger Pink Floyd - same band, same spirit, and a different bass player. What does stick in the craw is seeing the former guitarist of Joy Division singing "Transmission" instead of playing it. And the only guy from Joy Division playing the same intruments as he did on the JD records and shows was the drummer, who isn't even officially in Bad Lieutenant.
