keyboard help

Know any good, reliable but yet cheap keyboards out there? forming a band influenced by joy division/new order/slowdive/etc etc...

Alternatively, the Korg M1 (as used on 75% of pop tunes from 1987 - 2002) is still kicking around. And is cheap. http://www.dmaudio.co.uk/m1.html

Both are multi-timbral which means you can sequence several sounds at once, have built-in drum machines and FX and have lots and lots of sounds. You should have no trouble finding the string sound from Atmosphere which was originall played on a Woolworth's childrens keyboard (probably costing about £10).

I bought a Yamaha DJX a few years back. I think it was about £300.00 at the time and has since come down in price quite a lot,(though don't think it's still in production) seems to have most of the features on that Hunts has mentioned. Not sure it's of equal sound quality but has an on-board sampler, at a high bit rate, so any sound is available. I'd be surprised if you couldn't pick one up for under £150.00

What about the Triton by Korg I think. Certainly not cheap, but quite possibly the coolest thing ever in the history of ever.

Rowland has some good keyboards, and if you shop around, you can get a get price. Of course, 'good price' depends on what you're willing to spend. I was looking at a Rowland (don't remember the model name) and it was around $900, which is a great price considering it had a great sound, pretty much all the bells and whistles, although it did not have sequencing capabilities, but could with the right computer programs.

I never actually bought it, as the two friends I was starting a band with were largely into jazz.
