Now I know why Barney considers the King as a major source of influence: he wrote one of Joy Division's greatest hists (and was never credited for it).
The proof: Elvis Presley died in 1977. Joy Division released Love Will Tear Us Apart in 1980. There exists however a recording of this song by Elvis Presley!!! Here it is:

Sounds much more serious than the Run2 plagiarism affair, IMHO.
He didn't just write and record LWTUA. He also recorded "Come As You Are", "I Heard It Through The Grapevine", "Working Class Hero", "Twentieth Century Boy", "Sittin' On The Dock Of The Bay", "No Woman No Cry", "Whole Lotta Rosie", "Sympathy For The Devil", "Under The Bridge" and "Pretty Vacant" and wrote some of them because he died before the artists who later claimed to write them became famous and recorded them.
Yes, I find that version of the "King" being quite close to what it would sound like if it was really Elvis.

Actually, there's an Elvis impersonator who specializes in "what if" takes on modern songs (My Heart Will Go On, Hero, etc. etc.), every time the commercial comes on I crack up at the "it's almost like Elvis has come back from the grave, singing the hits of today!" spiel. my little sister probably has it already, I bet.
