have all north american NO fans seen 24 hppl?

it's september now, and i can safely assume that 24 hour party people has opened in most of the major cities. as for those who don't have a release date, my apologies.

so, for those who have seen it, what do you think of it?

i really liked the film and i was surprised at how funny it was. i really liked steve coogan as tony wilson, the guy is funny. i also liked the film cuz it gave me a dramatization of how things probably looked and felt like during those great years of music. it was nice to see events and facts played out. not as much NO in it, but i already knew that.

my main, but minor complaint was the first half of the movie, the JD part. i didn't think they put together the joy division story very well cuz i never got a sense of who the members of joy division were. especially ian. you didn't see him enough in the film to get a real sense of who he was and why he decided to kill himself. and the costuming for JD was also disapointing, their clothes looked a bit modern and not enough of the ties and dress pants!

other than that, great film!

No, I will see it in Portland on Sept. 3, before the Mekons show ( been way too busy, first chance I've had to see it....)

I saw it and was completely disappointed. The story of Factory? not hardly. That voice-over completely distracted from the film and turned it into 3minute pieces tied toghether loosely. I would love to see the documentary people were talking about with similar subject matter. would probably be much better than this waste of $9. The part with the acoustic Blue Monday was almost worth price of admission. Is there a full recording of that version? Does anyone have info on that version?

9 bucks? i saw it for 13.50 in this posh, really big theatre. only one theatre played this movie. is it just me or are these movie tics getting expensive?

I lived in the UK for 5 years, coming back to the States in April. Wouldn't you know it, 24 Hour Party People was released not long before I left (instead of at some other time during my long stay!), and never came to the tiny cinema in my town and I didn't have the chance to get to Edinburgh to see it before leaving the country.

Now I'm in Orlando and I don't think it will ever come here and I'm totally despondent, as when I heard they were releasing it in the States I was so excited. But, alas, I think I'll have to wait to see it on video (if I'll even be able to find it then!). In which city did you see it? Maybe it will come to the local 'arty' cinema here at some point, but I doubt it! POOH!

anyways, indie films are like that. they only play in one fooking theatre in town.

i don't have a 'thing' for molly ringwalD, but i do for john hughes movies, which came out when i was growing up in the '80s, and as 'pretty in pink' has several new order songs in it i thought a molly ringwald avatar would be fitting. (i.e. i associate molly with new order, as they were both so huge to me in the late '80s.) i can't put my own picture on b/c i don't have the technology.
