Well, we all have to pay the bills, and the Converse thing resulted in Barney and Steve doing a great collaboration with Hot Chip.

As for Adidas, Barney has been wearing Adidas since the 1980's. I like Adidas stuff myself. If they wanted to give me money to wear their shoes I would do it in a heartbeat, because I like their shoes a lot.

Things are strange really. Hooky left the band himself and the other three guys carried on with a new name. He's got any other ideas ($$$) that Steve and Bernard don't agree, for example that Unknown Pleasures thing. Just supposing.

The Converse one was great.

Yes Bernard was endorsing the product but at least there was a bit of creativity involved in the shape of the collaboration track with Hot Chip. It was a nice gesture to release it for free as a 4 track MP3 single rather than charge fans or make us buy a pair of trainers before we could hear it.

Plus as mentioned earlier, the bills have to be paid so begrudging them for endorsing the odd product here and there is a bit wided eyed.

As things stand, the Converse one (at least) was done in a cool way.

I think all of New Order should do a tonne of adverts, every day, and get paid shit-loads. And sell more things, things that arent worth the money they charge. And buy islands in the pacific. And generally be rich bastards from doing fuck all.

I always think of the "Alternative Comedians" from the early eighties, and how they went from wanting to bring the government down to owning farmland in the home-counties.

Point is; people change and priorities change, move on and let them.

And, as is oft repeated, if someone offered it you......

ont thing though. after all of these fights and ads and people talking about cashing in, etc. i have to say steve is my favourite NO memberright now. he always have a joke to say, he tries not to bash anyone and he has tanks. :)

What bullshit Barney is talking, when he went to school everybody was wearing Adidas gear? In the mid to late 1960's? Jack Duckworth must have been waving a large wad of cash just off camera as Barney was declaring his undying love for adidas trainers, thats the only explanation. On the other hand, now that bands are losing out financially with all the illegal downloading nowadays who can blame them for grabbing the cash..

Bernard's always been bonkers about Adidas hasn't he? Same with Ian Brown, I read years ago that there's allegedly some legendary supplier in Manc who sorts out all the various Manc indie stars with trainers, tshirts, assorted Adidas gear and in return they bang on about how great it all is. IB had his own limited edition trainers a couple of years ago.

For most of the 2005/6 tour Bernard wore an Adidas tshirt onstage and wore Adidas trainers for most of the initial Bad Lieutenant promotional shots.

If we're going to lay into Barney for the Adidas sponsorship then it's only fair to note there was a pair of limited edition FAC 51 Hacienda trainers available a few years ago for silly money. There's no way that wouldn't have been commissioned without Hooky's say so:

Don't mind their trainers personally, I own more than a few pairs but unfortunately don't get paid for wearing them :\ohwell: bummer.

Actually,Barney looks a bit like Des Barnes, who was involved in a Bizarre Love Triangle with Tanya Pooley and Raquel Watts at one stage..
