Was listening to the full version of Here To Stay today, such an amazing, fantastic song, definitely one of New Order's best dance tracks in my opinion, I loved it when it came out in 2002.
So I wonder...
Why didn't the band make more of this song?
Was it originally intended for inclusion on Get Ready?
Why did they never play it live?
Did they ever attempt to play it live?

Collaboration with the Chemical Brothers. The sleeve represents the Hacienda. Was supposed to be released on Get Ready, put was postponed due to different schedules, when the 24 Hour Party People project was ready, they decided to finish it for the movie.

Bit too NO-by-numbers for me, but anyway... A Chemical Crothers collaboration was fixed for 'Get ready' but delayed. While they never played it in gigs there's a TOTP performance but it looks a bit mimey to me. I seem to remember Hooky bashing all hell out of the electric drums then his bass starting before he'd reached it.

i guess their vow to not lipsync to prerecorded tapes lasted only several years in the 80s. everyone likes to bring that up how cool new order is cause they go on ToTP etc and actually play their instruments. whatever.

They were cool when it mattered,and besides,when they played Blue Monday live in TOTP it went down in the charts the following week..
Nice to see Phil stay glued to that keyboard for the "performance".
Really wish they would have played this live.

It's a marmite thing, and I never like agreeing with johnny, but for me it's a poor Chems backing track with jarring guitars over the top. Very poor, and I imagine it would sound awful live.

Yes it was the b side on CD1.Just had a look.
Check out from 4.15 onwards to the end .Hooky's bass, the synths, the programmed bass parts... Sublime and magnificent and up there with anything they did in the 80s
I love this track and got goose bumps when it came on at the end of 24 Hour Party People. I think it's classic NO and as good as anything on Get Ready. Player In The League is sublime. Always liked Sabotage too.

hate to agree, but
It's a weird one this - when I first heard it I loved it - it was like the way New Order should have sounded instead of that awful Republic album. Okay so the Chemicals produced it, which is a bit of a bonus, but if it was promoted as a New Order VS The Chemical Brothers project with a shitload of better remixes it might have done better.
As it stands, I soon found it quite generic after the fourth or fifth listen, so it's slipped down the rankings quite quickly as a New Order single that hasn't stood the test of time.... bit like its chart performance in fact.
Some people are able to overlook the lyrics and just enjoy the tune but IMO the lyrics to Player in the League are so dire that I find it a really uncomfortable listen
Have always liked Here To Stay - not an absolute classic but a solid latter-period single for sure

Considering when it was released it did pretty well. Had it been the lead single from Get Ready I think it would've been huge.
Player in the League (aka Field) was originally meant for the album but didn't make it - probably 'cos like 'Dynamo' it has B-Side written all over it! Not one of their best moments...

With you on that one..... NO always suffer from the 'second - or third - single syndrome' when they lift songs off albums - the first always goes top 10 or near enough, then the next one stiffs outside the 20. And the third one - forget it! Republic is the sole exception to this rule cos World went top 20 as well as far as I remember.
This track was stand alone but it was poorly marketed and it scraped into the 20 before dropping like a stone.

But.....surely you must agree that since 2002, NO have been nothing else but 'average' at best.
