Charlotte Cox talks to the local bands planning to rock your socks off.

WHO: Legend Stephen Morris, former Joy Division and New Order drummer.

HIS SOUND: As a DJ: "An eclectic mix of clout rock and contemporary stuff."

Bad Lieutenant: "North-western soul: we're carrying on the tradition of Joy Division and New Order."

CATCH HIM: Friday night on the main stage with Bad Lieutenant Sunday night in the DJ tent

BAD Lieutenant, formed by New Order front man Bernard Sumner, will be a highlight of the night for Macclesfield's many die-hard Joy Division fans. Singing alongside Sumner is Jake Evans, also from Macclesfield. And Morris - a close friend of the late Ian Curtis - will be rocking his drums off.

Stephen, who lives in Rainow with New Order keyboardist and singer Gillian, his two children and a collection of four army tanks, said: "It's fantastic to have a local festival because there's a pretty good music scene in Macclesfield and this is right on the doorstep.

"The bill looks great - other than a slightly iffy DJ playing on Sunday night.

"I'm looking forward to seeing the VirginMarys because they're doing brilliantly.

"And everyone keeps telling me to see Rough Twist so I'll make sure I do."

Stephen says they may play some new stuff

"You'll have to come and see us, it should be good."

Wife Gillian will be there to support Stephen 'well I'll need someone to watch me DJ' and his kids Tilly, 15, and Grace, 11, may make it too.

The band's favourite rehearsal space is Stephen's farm, where a Dalek sits in the corner of his studio.

They are also currently working on their next album there.

Bernard Sumner and Stephen Morris were original members of Joy Division, along with Peter Hook and Ian Curtis.

Stephen may be continuing that legacy - but some things have changed over the years.

"I'm too old for camping now and I only live down the road. I just hope the weather doesn't turn nasty," he said.

Yeah - what's with Tim Burgess looking like he just escaped from some sort of Batcave/Alien Sex Fiend/Mission/Sisters Of Mercy Goth Convention from 1984???

He looks like he could be grandson to Bernard's granddad though...god, the latter has gone old!!!!

:eek3:
