Me, I just downloaded Hellbent.

Heck I bought 4 copies of it.

And if you downloaded Hellbent, did you pay for it?

I downloaded Hellbent and didn't pay for it, but since I bought both Technique, Brotherhood and Substance twice (once on cassette, then on CD) don't I have credit to spend?

(but yes, I will pay for it when it's available)

I'll download and pay Hellbent once I figure out how iTunes work.

If hellbent becomes available to download on its own I'll down load it (legaly of course) even though I don't think it's great, I just have to have it.

Heck! I will buy the CD (but not in Tescos).

Ok, Linus, You have won. I have ordered only 3 copies, but the limited ones with a T-Shirt. :D

Totally. I want to feel like in 1995 when I bought CDs.

Would people be more interested if it was a gatefold double album? remember the feeling, listening to your LP for the first time, drooling over the artwork, nice 12" record to play.

I'm feeling old now

When it's down to 3 quid or something in Fopp as I do still try to pick up stuff on CD by bands I have lots of albums by already...

Why?

Just read your explanation on another post. Fair enough. Each to their own.

Absolutely not.

What is the point.? More pertinently, I will never line the cynical money-grabbing pockets of Warners again as far as any NO/JD related "product" is concerned, until hell freezeth over.

They don't care about the fans, so why the fuck should I care about them bunch of c***s?

Because it also lines the pockets of the artists too. You know, the ones who actually wrote the tunes in the first place. I shall be buying it and also getting it signed. Back of the net!

i did buy it and i am very pleased i did!

I already did it. But my aim was putting my hands on that nice t-shirt :evil4:

No; we've all paid for these tracks many times over, apart from Hellbent which I've downloaded. If they'd included some more unreleased tracks ...6... I would have bought it.

Bought it as you get the nice t-shirt as well as a brand new track for £20 inc postage, also a proper remastering job as well.

I've:

a) downloaded "Hellbent"... for free b) ordered the album (the limited edition, to be more accurate) c) cursed Saville/Wakefield (for delievering another white sleeve)

do people really like the t-shirt and album cover?

piss poor if u ask me.

Don't like white t-shirts period, they always end up covered in pawprints and pasta marks that won't go off. I would have considered buying the deluxe package actually had I really liked the t-shirt design.

Will be downloading the track, won't be buying the album

After having a chance to preview Total, I have decided to pick it up mainly based on the fact that...this is the best sounding New Order release I have heard. The mastering was really well done on this compilation. Though, it really is a shame that the same time and effort couldn't have been put into the 2008 New Order Factory remasters. (I thought the Joy Division remasters where handled quite well, however)

I agree, all the tracks feel alive and vibrant - I am glad I bought it

BTW Buzzcocks have done an album called a different complilation, where they have re recorded some of their earlier output (I assume its a fans favourite compilation) my mate played it to me the other day and I have to say it's brilliant every track sounds really now which is odd when the majority of the songs are from the late 70's. Strange idea but it works

Unfortunately, no. If I really liked Hellbent, I would be willing to legally buy just that, but I haven't really thought Hellbent would be worth it. And I don't want another 'best of' type collection when I already have Substance (NO), Substance (JD), International, and The Best of New Order. Some might say, 'They are remastered decently', but I still am not interested.

What about Elvis fans? These poor souls buy everything in Elvis name. 300 compilation CDs anyone?

I'll legally pay for and download Hellbent when it's available on Amazon US. Paying for a completely new song I don't have makes sense. As for the rest of the 17 tracks, I've purchased all these on CD and vinyl at least four times over by now. I've earn to the right to download the songs I already own for free. If New Order really wanted seventeen more dollars from me, they should have included all the leftover WFTSC tracks on a bonus disc.

I got my copy of 'Total' today for £9.99 in HMV & I agree that the remastering job is well-done, as all the tracks sound really good. Also, it's nice to have the 7' version of 'True Faith' on CD at last, as it's not on either 'Substance' or 'Singles' (as they both have the album version) & the 1994 remix is on 'The Best Of', so worth getting for that & 'Hellbent' too of course!

Hopefully now though this will be the last compilation/best of/greatest hits/singles-type album for a long-time, as there's been more than enough now.

I will definitely get Total at some point. I really like Hellbent and the artwork looks good. Has there been any mention of a U.S. release?

In 2014, we will see a compilation of side project hits, then in 2017, a compilation of side projects combined with JD/NO hits released in two volumes. In 2020, these two volumes will be condensed to one compilation and will include a bonus disc of Paul Morley's liner notes in spoken word. 2023 will see the best of Paul Morley spoken word liner notes with a bonus Ian Curtis bobble head.

bought it today and i have to say its a very good remastering job. none of this loudness war bullshit that plagued so many release in the previous decade.

one thing i did notice was that in the credits for each song has a different order when telling you who wrote each song. so for example in the credits gillians name comes first for regret, while for BLT and true faith its hooky's.

does this indicate who the principal songwriter was in any given composition?

Possibly (that's the case in some music I listen to)...can anybody give a definite answer?

if you are interested in sound quality

this is the best sounding new order disc ever

for me with a high end system, its worth it on those grounds alone.

i thought the main albums were done reasonably well on the new order reissues, it was just the bonus discs that were an embarrassment.

as for the jd reissues, i thought they were too loud and listen to the heart and soul boxset instead.

The fixed bonus discs are great, if you can identify them to buy in the first place.

the order varies from song to song so on regret its gilbert, hook, morris, sumner, while on true faith its hook, morris, sumner, gilbert

I've just tried to buy Hellbent via Amazon but I cant due to geographical/copyright issues, now could someone tell me whether I'll be able to buy the sole track at all, I wouldn't like to go through the fuss of installing iTunes just not to be able to buy it? Actually I'm not too keen on iTunes at all, is there an alternative online store selling to non-EU customers?

I imagine the order is meaningless. I mean, as if they could possibly agree on "who wrote the most" of any given track this late in the day: (a) they can't fucking remember anyway and (b) even if they could they'd just argue about it like the fucking useless mard arses they are (and always have been).

probably it has no meaning but still the (seemingly) random order of credits is puzzling.

on another note how strange it is that new order releases have been responsible for some of the most damning examples of compression - Get Ready, WFTSC, Singles - and yet Total is the most perfect re-master I have ever heard outside of some outrageously expensive Japanese SACD's of Stevie Wonder and Rolling Stones albums.

I think the more upbeat tracks like True Faith and WIM benefit the most but honestly the whole release is a shining example of how things should be done.

thanks for the mastering info Milkshock - used a gift card from Father's Day to purchase Total. I wouldn't spend $60 like another person did here, but for $11 credit it seemed like a good cd to have for the summer road trips.

I bought it for the car. I could burn a CDR of tracks I like but I can't be arsed.

Reading all the comments on sound quality surprises me - ok it's not "louded" to death but I thought Perfect Kiss was too tinny and I'd swear there was distortion in the low end during True Faith at some point when I listened to it yesterday. And Ceremony and Temptation original versions are poorly recorded anyway so for a commercial, nice, professional-sounding best-of they should have used the Substance versions IMO, perhaps used the edited Temptation from 24 Hour Party People OST.

Hellbent's pretty good - anyone else wonder when listening to it if the vocals were added much later... in other words an instrumental WFTSC out-take with vocals added recently? Just a thought. Good track though, nice closer to the album.
