I know the amount of hate the songs gathers here, but the Jetstream Remix from Arthur Baker sounds so much better than the original song that I wondered if there are any other cases with NO songs.
Bill Hamel's GIAUE is better or just as good as the original, and 1963 - Arthur Baker 95 sounds incredible.
I've never been much a fan of remixes, but some of them were pleasant surprises, so, any suggestions?
Most of the Minimal Records remixes and the 2002 mixes of Confusion are better than the Substance album version... But the original single version is the best.
Have to disagree about 1963. I do like the remix, but prefer the original.
For BLT it's a tough call between the the original and the Stephen Hague mix on the Select cassette compilation.
The single mix of Round and Round better than the album version.
Ruined In a Day k klass mix too.
60MPH & WFTSC are good examples of very subtle remixing vastly improving the song from the album.
Ruined in a Day is a classic example of a remix bettering the original, although it is a more fundamental remix than the other 2 mentioned above.
It's a pity nobody ever thought to remix Blue Monday though.
Stuart Price's remix of "I Told You So" from the 12 x 12" series is slightly better than the (not very good) album version, isn't it?
Fluke's single mix ("minimix") of "Spooky" isn't half bad either... I don't understand why this wasn't on "Singles" (along with the correct 7" versions of Confusion, Perfect Kiss, BLT, True Faith, Run 2 and 1963...).
Something that also should have been on there is Spike's superior mix of "World" which appears in the video. Ok, it's not wildly different, but the drums sound better, a bit like the single mix of Electronic's "For You". It has never been released on any other format. The full length mix of this is something they should dig out for a "Republic" 2xCD edition, but I bet it will never happen...
There's loads of remixes better than the LP versions.
Round & Round New Order 12" Mix. Definitive version of the track, and should have opened the LP. Game, set & match.
Fine Time Silk Mix. Again, should have been the LP mix. Takes the song to its full potential.
World Perfecto 12" Mix. Takes a fairly average, slightly tired single and makes it sound ... enjoyable. Would've been great if this version had been played live.
Spooky 12" Mix. Same as World.
True Faith 1998 Peel Session : takes the Perfecto Mix, and polishes it to perfection - its New Order being remixed by Perfecto being reremixed by New Order.
BLT Shep Pettibone or Richard X Mixes.
Krafty - Glinners Extended.
Vanishing Point Making Out Mix. Not better, but just as good, if only someone could combine all those mixes...

Actually, I would go further and suggest that Fine Time's b-side "Don't Do It" is better than all the Fine Time mixes and should have been on the album instead. Don't get me wrong, I kinda like Fine Time, but I feel Don't Do It would have sat more nicely with the rest of the tracks on the album..... and it's better :)

I would go even further: "The Happy One" should have been the opener! It would fit seamlessly with the next track, "All The Way".
Otherwise I agree about "Don't Do It", I just wish they'd done a straightforward version with less of the novelty samples and noises, and more emphasis on the 12-string guitar.
I reckon Andy Green's remix of Krafty is better than the original- he makes the tune sound more New Order-y. Also agree with the above comments on Fine Time/Don't Do It re: the Silk Mix. The Lenny G remix of Don't Do It absolutely kills

To be honest, I've always been surprised at the HATE Jetstream garners - it's no True Faith but it's no Video 586 either, plus I want to have sex with Ana Matronic. Saw the Scissor Sisters out here in Rome and it was great! (PS I've heard the singer is gay. Surley not.) As for remixes - the worst ones are the ones that sound too much like the originals to warrant purchase (Hague '94) OR too different from the originals to please the fans (Lionrock's 1963 - three fucking times over!). The best ones take the original and pump 'em so full of spunk they're even more compelling! Check Blue Monday Hardfloor 95, Ron St Germain's Pineapple Face, World Perfecto... Plus I used to have this really strong take on Round and Round on the 3" CD, it was called the 12" mix but was very different from Hague's vinyl product (which I love too, but that's another story).
The Perfect Kiss (why oh why did they put the 7" on Low-Life?)
Sub-Culture (the Exclusive Mirror Mix is the best version of the track)
Paradise (the Robert Racic Mix has far superior production - if it didn't have that irritating minute or so of clock ticking and just a drum beat it would be a vast improvement)
Touched by the Hand of God (the Biff & Memphis Mix - never really liked the original, it's very badly dated 80s cheese)
State of the Nation (the Shame of the Nation version is more polished)
Round & Round (the New Order 12" version with the long instrumental intro is by far the best version - shame about the sound quality on my CD of it)
Run (the Run 2 Extended Mix - I like the long intro and the breakbeat effects even though it has dated a little)
World (the Perfecto 12" Mix and the World In Action Mix are vastly superior to the album version)
Ruined In A Day (as much as I like the original, I prefer the Reunited In A Day Mix)
Spooky (the Stadium Mix and the New Order In Heaven Mix)
1963 (I love the original but the Arthur Baker Remix is a fantastic track and has dated a lot better)
Krafty (I prefer the Re-Edit with harder drum sound and a longer intro)
Jetstream (virtually all of the mixes are an improvement on a pretty mediocre song anyway)
Guilt Is A Useless Emotion (the Mac Quayle Mix is edgier and therefore a much better dance track)

Sacrilege! Nothing beats the definitive album version of Run, especially not that garish extended mix!

I agree.
I LOVE Jetstream, I think it is one of New Order best Pop/Electro/Dance singles, it has a really gorgeous, uplifting melody, a lot of cool synth work, some cool lyrics on the version, and several really nice melodic lead bass lines from Hooky. Its; my second favorite post 2001 New Order track after Crystal.
