The Happy One must be rebuilt ...

Hi all - couple of presents ahead... if I offend the powers that be - let me know and I'll remove them...

I thought I might have some fun and reconstruct a full-ish version of The Happy One from the pieces on the Palatine Lane CD, where the parts are known as Intermede Musical pts 1-6.

Anyway without further ado, here is the rebuild: The Happy One (Intermede Reconstruction #1)

I had so much fun with it, I thought I might throw together a remix! I used some of Tony Wilson's banter from Hooky's live performance of the track on TV back in the day.. Can be found on YouTube.

Nice one. Of the two I posted above, the first is a straight edit of NO's own track, not a cover, but the latter is indeed a new remix.

Maybe a new NOOL project beckons...

I just find it hard to believe that - even after all this time, we have not got a definitive digital version of this lost instrumental issued on a CD or DVD - much less the infamous Play At Home C4 programme featuring Factory Records/New Order.

IT's beyond a joke really...to think The Happy One could have at least graced one of the bonus CDs of the truly dreadful "Factory Years" New Order remasters.

There's one at 2'21" in length on Spotify if you type in "New Order The Happy One".

In fact, my last interview with Hooky,he was saying that when he did the Q&A session with John Robb in Salford,he also played THE HAPPY ONE that night,plus SOONER THAN YOU THINK with backing by Phil Da Gap (MAN RAY). It's coming out on official download possibly latter half of the year. It was actually recorded from outside on RONNIE LANE's (THE FACES) mobile recording studio.

Just right-click on the original links. On a Mac a right click is done by tapping two fingers on the bottom-right of the touch-pad or if you're using a mouse hold Control down while clicking.

I tried to do this decades ago with the Substance 1988 VHS and a cassette recorder. Thankfully I didn't waste too much time on that.

To be honest, The Happy One sounds like a demo, something half-developed and overall it feels unfinished. I don't know why New Order even let it out. So their late lack of enthusiasm about this track is understandable.

Having said that, I truly like the remix you did. That is what saves this track for me. Cheers!

Takes me back to my cassette drop-mix days. You needed a deck with a precision pause button tho'... I remember extending True Dub to 30 minutes this way.

I used to do that too, I did a fairly decent one of eurythmics whose that girl, though if I listened to it now I'm sure I'd think it was shite!

always better with a manual pause than a push button electric job, though something a simple as audacity pisses all over it today.

I forgot to say on my original posting, i like the mix, love the samples of TW.
