Difference in mastering speed of PCL (Factus 12c) and PCL (Fact 75) cassette versions.

Now this is a weird one.

I have both the UK boxed Fact 75 tape version of this and also the US standard tape version (where the two extra tracks are both sides of Fac 73 - and Your Silent Face and Ecstasy are titled KW1 and Only The Lonely respectively)....

...and yet the US version, which was the first version I got before I tracked down the limited Factory box edition, plays slower than the UK one....meaning the track running times are obviously longer due to the change in pitch.....so when I got the UK version, it sounded speeded up to me cos I was so used to listening to the FactUS 12 version...

e.g. Age Of Consent is 5.26 instead of 5.15 The Village is 4.48 instead of 4.37 5-8-6 is 7.41 instead of 7.29 KW1 (YSF) is 6.10 instead of 6.00 etc etc.....

Is this a mastering irregularity or something....?

Anybody else notice this and if yes, can they explain why this is?

It would be very easy for the cassettes to have been mastered with slight errors in speed. There is also the possibility that one of the 25+-year-old tapes might have stretched since it was manufactured.

This was happening back in 1985 when I had both tapes...one played faster than the other (the Factory Boxed version). There is definitely a difference in the way the tape speed was set. Strange indeed....

Ive got both these cassettes in the house,

if only i had a tape deck that worked....
