A remastered WFTSC with a bonus disc would make sense, throw on a couple of remixes like that were on the "WFTSC" singles. Doubt that they would get much attention thou with just a WFTSC reissue.
The 7 songs would have to be solid to merit a stand alone album. The Control songs don't really sound like they stand on their own. They could throw on those iTunes live songs they recorded and released mp3 only, but that is rather lame.
Maybe the 7 tracks and a recent B side collection including "Here to Stay" and "Vietnam", all the non album tracks in one place as a career mop up. Call it... Sober and Pissed
I don't see why the Control tracks need releasing with this, they've been released, that's it. Done.

Madonna = Hellbent
Seven songs (a) as great as Hellbent and (b) rejected in favour of Jetstream six years ago. Plus three instrumentals. What's the odds everyone's gonna get all excited about this then when they get to actually hear the stuff rip the poo outa it? Personally I think - and this was suggested years ago - they could put all these out on a single CD. I understand it'd be a bit hotch-potch, combining stuff from 2 different projects on one item... But I'm not into digital releases meself. And a Sirens repackage? Don't really wanna duplicate an album I wasn't overstruck by in the first place, and I can't imagine it needs remastering after a relatively short time. Anyway the main thing is we FINALLY get to hear this stuff! Any more info? All I know is - Hellbent (obviously), Sister and Brother (played at the Light's debut), Sugarcane (touted in the Sirens build-up) and a song spun by Hooky DJing ages ago which I think was called When You're Away. We'll see.

..sorry don't agree that Sirens doesn't need remastering at all. I just stuck the album into EAC and did a graphical analysis and it is horribly brickwalled. Just because an album is recent doesn't mean it is well mastered. In fact most of the best sounding CDs in my collection come from the 80s and early 90s (before the loudness wars kicked in).

Can't really comment Mr Tate as I'm a technophobe! I just thought it'd be strange bunging out a remaster of a fairly new LP. Mind you, Owen Morris remastered Electronic just 2 years on, so I'm talking shite again.
So far I think Snorri's idea is the best
Remastered WFTSC with 'NO' Second CD with these 7 (& perhaps a couple of extras like Vietnam & B's - Titled 'MORE'

..the thing is you don't need a high end system to find out that Sirens and the Singles collection are horrible. Maybe this is part of the reason you didn't like Sirens. The fact is - with a half decent system most people will get a headache and feel antagonistic towards the album when it is done like the original Sirens. As soon as you hear a proper remaster you will hear the difference. For example the recent "Total" CD was OK and I sat through the whole 70 plus minutes without recourse to the Nurofen !

I'm such a cynic :-) but I love New Order really.
I really hope the "new" stuff is good, but after hearing Hellbent I ain't setting expectations too high.
If 2 out of the 7 tracks are gems, that'll do me. Not being negative, just realistic.
Just for the hell of it, I wouldn't mind them trying a different designer for the cover art - just a personal opinion, but I thought the WTFSC, Singles and Total albums had poor and lazy design. I do like most of Saville's earlier stuff, but I think he's lost his way a bit. Might be good to give some fresh talent with new ideas a try?

Well, this is good news. It does tell us two things :
Those long lost songs will get a release. As they always should have.
Reissues seem to be planned for Republic, GR, WFTSC
However, if this is on the second disc of WFTSC the huge number of vinyl only remixes around 2005-2006 will be lost - that's remixes of Krafty, Jetstream, Guilt, WFTSC, I Told You So, Regret, Toothache, Bacon Lettuce Tomato, EGG, Temptation - all of which would've made a half-decent bonus / updated remix disc in their own right. If that had been a bonus disc on one of the gazillion be+st of's I'd've bought it in a shot.
Though... the full 30 minute version fo "Soundtrack", anyone? That would make a nice 'bonus' track at the end of the regular version of Get Ready, for starters.

Well you say that, but they're gonna get back together. Bernard will say Hooky doesn't want to reform the band, then Hooky will say it's Bernard who doesn't want them to reform, then they'll both go "ok let's reform" just to spite each other :-)

I guess there's a tiny sliver of hope that in a few years if/when the rancour has died down that they could end up getting together to accept some sort of Brit lifetime achievment thing (IF it was offered), then if they got through that without killing each other MAYBE they'd do a couple of live gigs as a proper goodbye..... but, even in those unlikely circumstances, I seriously doubt we'd see any new recorded stuff.

In my very humble opinion it ain't NO without Peter. Was different when Gillian left, as it was on good terms and there was the possibility that she may have returned if/when appropriate.
If they've gone ahead without consulting Peter, then Hooky's head is probably exploding right about now. Hopefully what happened is the others consulted him and he gave it the OK on a one-off basis given it's a benefit for a friend. I guess we'll find out sooner or later.
A deluxe edition of WFTSC would tank.
- The group has been defunct now for half a decade
- The album lost them money even when they had tours and record label promotion to back it up
- Despite all the hype, the album received so/so reviews amongst both fans and critics
Honestly, if they truly want to profit from these leftover recordings, they should get Hooky on board for a couple final shows to put the nail in the coffin for New Order, promote it as such and watch as the tickets sell out instantly. After that, they could release a live greatest hits album and DVD set similar to Kraftwerk's Minimum Maximum with the leftover WFTSC tracks as a bonus disc. Throw the whole thing up on iTunes and Amazon for digital download so they don't have to press as many physical copies and viola... the story of New Order is dead and gone, physical copies sell out instantly and people still have the option of downloading at virtually no expense to the band.

I agree with everything you say and your suggestions make perfect sense.... but of course it won't happen like that coz it's New Order :-) They'll probably release the tracks on a 3.5 inch floppy disk that can only be purchased from a shop on the moon on the 32nd day of every other month.
I'd be happy enough to buy from itunes, but there's lots of audiophiles on here who'd bitch on about mp3 blah blah blah, lossy format blah blah blah, compression blah blah blah, need it in FLAC format blah bla blah :-)
