read the piece on BBC 6 the venues don't show it on their calendars as of now... will try to make it.
No Hooky. But, perhaps, this is the best opportunity for a kiss and make-up.
I cant quite get me head round how this is New Order and not Bad Loo, though.

At least that funny lookin wee guy from BL that looked like a 90's throwback with his Noel-hair isn't involved. That would've put me off my for sure. Couldn't even tell you waht the bass player looked like.
but then Bad Loot is basically New Order, so it works both ways. Bringing Gillian back in, seals it for me though, brilliant :)

Exactly.
Gillian was just as important to New Order's sound as Hooky. I liked Gillian's synths before I liked Hooky's bass.
Hooky quit. They other want to continue. He made his decision.

See, this is my issue. The NO Facebook announcement has all these people hollering that IT'S NOT NEW ORDER WITHOUT HOOKY, and that's a fair point, but when Gillian left, you didn't hear a huge outcry that IT WASN'T NEW ORDER. Granted, the circumstances of Gillian leaving are VERY different from Hooky's (in other words, she wasn't going to sue them for continuing as "New Order"), but I don't get how Hooky is so much more integral to New Order than Gillian is. If anything, the past few years have shown that she did a lot more during the 80's than make the damn tea.

I will tell you what it is: sexism. Some Lads just cannot accept that Gillian's touch is just as important to New Order's as Hooky's. They also cannot accept that not everyone think it was just Hooky who made New Order great. When I saw New Order in concert, I stood in front of Bernard, so I could watch the band's songwriter in action, and watch Steve drum, and watch Phil play Gillian's synth parts. Don't get me wrong, I love Peter Hook and he is brilliant, but he wasn't the sole reason New Order is amazing.

When Gillian left, though it was relatively quiet, it was also a good reason and with no apparent acrimony and what seemed to be Gillians blessing to continue.
When Hooky left, there appears to have been an enormous amount of acrimony and no blessing to continue as New Order.
I imagine right now steam is coming out of Hooky. But if Hooky says "it's cool with me" - unlikely that that seems - then that's great.
Whilst I strongly disagree with Hooky touring The-Many-Moods-Of-Joy-Division round the world for years, resurrecting the NO name without Hooky under the guise of a charity show, whilst also very possibly quietly testing the water for a post-Hooky NO and Jake quietly removed from the band feels very exploitative to me.

Ultimately, it's solely for a charitable cause. If people don't want to go or don't want to pay they don't have to. If it was perhaps for pure profit I could maybe see your point of view.
Don't get me wrong, I also have trouble recognising it as the "true" New Order with Hooky not on board but you only live once so the way I see it as a fan I could either get hung up on that point or enjoy it and go along to see 3/4rs of the original line-up play those songs. Hooky left of his own accord and if he wants to take them to court over "name use" then that's his prerogative. Over a couple of charity gigs it would look pretty petty though so I suspect it won't happen. Longer term if they decide to continue who knows.
For all we know Hooky has perhaps given legal consent in the background... nobody knows until the big man himself speaks and I'm sure he will. He's not known for being shy regarding speaking out on the ongoing situation with his ex-bandmates.
From the sounds of things, Shamberg requires a great deal of long-term medical care and if Barney, Steve and Gillian using the New Order name for two gigs prolongs the guy's life then I can sort of live with them being "exploitative" in this instance.

I've seen bands reform for a one-off charitable show, that then becomes a 40 date world tour of mega-arenas with a whole bunch of cash as the reason.
This is in no way to denigrate the importance or severity of Shamberg's condition or the efforts of the band to raise money to help. I wish him the best.
