ME... Was happy to spend the $ on Hookys roadshow (still looking forward to The Lowry) & was equally pleased with the 3 Bad Loot shows i saw but i cannot get my head around this version of Bad Loot with Gillian. Its not New Order & i hope Hooky prevents them from from using the name, because 2 will become 4 etc.. Theres always some dying Manc twat around who 'needs' a benefit.

Me...im more chuffed that the original Inspiral Carpets have reformed.. Mind..it does still tug at the heart strings as to what to do

I'm not going out of principle as well, I hope they're not allowed to use the name, but at the same time I want them to reach an agreement and maybe play alongside Hooky later on (I know, I know..).

I'm not going due to unemployment/lack of passport/two young kids

I think it's ridiculous for people who have gone to Hooky's recent projects to start talking trash about this project with the whole rest of the band. I not only hope they add more shows, I hope they release another album. Hooky needs to pull it together and join... or get over it.

Erm, so this "principle" will allow you to pay to watch Hooky tour entire Joy Division albums by himself (as the sole original member) and watch him front the "FAC51 Hacienda" brand by himself (despite it being owned by all 4 of them, AHW & Rob G back in the day) but you won't go and see three members of the original line-up plus Phil Cunningham play two gigs under the name "New Order" in aid of a guy who is seriously ill?

'kin ell. Hardcore (I think).

Don't get me wrong, Hooky's more than entitled to do what he wants to do but let's not start applying one set of principles to some band members without remembering everything else that's gone on over the past few years. I think as far as uses of the "New Order" name goes this is a pretty good one and hope they raise enough to keep their mate comfortable. The promos that guy made for New Order defined their public image over the 80s/90s and a couple of them are master-classes in the art of truly original pop music videos.

Harsh.

ME-not seeing what the big deal is. At least they're playing out again.

Also, broke and American (same thing, really).

I posted earlier that, by chance or design, Hookys been put in an invidious position. If he objects to this then hes the twat who tried to stop a good cause. Equally, the name Bad Loo wouldnt have brought in the same amount of charity Euros.

What a fucking mess.

Not going to NO out of principle but watching Hooky's tribute act?? Beyond my comprehension. But then so are flat earth society members. There's a Monty Python sketch in this thread just waiting to be written.

Ironically I could have gone if I was still unemployed after being made redundant, but I misjudged the effort I needed to put in to interviews to look like I actually wanted the post and managed to get offered a frikin job...... Arse.

I'm not going out of Principle.

I'm going out of the Eurostar Terminal at St Pancras.

Hope this, etc.

I'd love to go. Unfortunately i can't afford it. Also tickets are £100 each! I doubt they'll only play these two gigs. They will surely play the uk.

Do ... what?

£100 fcuking notes per ticket?

Where does it say that?

EDIT: I guess you're talking about the train tickets which are, indeed, trés pricy. The Paris gig is only 45 Yoyos though.

and the Brussels one is even cheaper at €42 :)

No cash bars there though - everthing in there is cashless, from what I remember?

You have to queue for beer tokens, and then for beer.

Swings and roundabouts.

Sorry, my mistake, must have been a dodgy ticket site or something! Still can't afford it!

A big soap opera named New Order, isn't it?

If I cannae make it, it definitely won't be because of any principles. It'll be because I'm already on holiday in Gran Canaria at the end of the month.

If I can get the holidays aff work and one more big win from Paddy Power I'll be at both hopefully, John and Lorraine are also contemplating this, so three of the Corby Order should be about.

It'd be fookin rude not to :viking:

Daft idea for a thread really - how pompous to boycott a band on the basis that they dare to carry on after one member voluntarily leaves the band. Don't get me wrong, it would be great to have a full reunion. But wow.

Your principles are pretty selective if you have no issue with The Light's work AND you object with the rest of NO using their name to help a very sick mate out by raising money for him.

Yeah, you show 'em. The bastards.

I'm not going because I've been to Paris only a year and a half ago and that's not long enough. How's THAT for principle.

Also, I'm already going to New York in a few weeks, so I'll be skint next month.

And I'm not counting these as proper NO gigs just so I can still say I went to the "very last gig ever!" ;)

Seriously, though, wish I could. You guys have fun! :thumb:

I'm not going. No time, no money and the worst - no Hooky.

At last it's for charity - so I will not talk too bad about it. ;)

F...cing hell, didnt want to come across a a right twat but looks like i did ! its a great idea for a benefit show (i know Shamberg is due at the Lowry shows)all i mean is i wish they called it Bad Loot plus/with Gillain etc.. as opposed to New Order which to me have split. Gillian left remember to look after poorly bern. feel its a tad insensitive to that Jake bloke as well. As for seeing Hooky - its just fun/karaokie & Bad Loot play their own stuff. Im neither pompous or overtly principled to be honest, i would rather go again with em all there. Plus its 10 yrs ago nigh to the day i saw em play Paris on the Get Ready tour & i loved it so i reckon its the pleasant memories that are 'tainting' my judgement. However like any sort of drug - love/booze/coffee/the other..its hard letting go as you search for excuses to try to justify.

Anyway didnt want to come across as a prick because as those who replied and know me... i value yr friendship

You haven't come over as a twat. It's all just opinions innit?

Got disagree on the bad Loot plus Gillian view though.....how can it be Bad Loot without Jake? It can't. He's a current member of Bad Loot, hasn't quit and they're still a going concern. Now hooky is nothing to do with new order anymore, he quit in 2006. We don't even know if Gillian is officially back in NO, or just playing these gigs. But phil, steve and bernard are defo NO - they didn't quit see - so if they want to play as NO they can, because they are.

It's 80% New order in my eyes, and up from the 75% in their previous incarnation. :evil4: A good argument in a court of law. Perhaps.

:read:

I'm also hearing comments online (not really here though) about people saying that the situation is 'wrong', presumably without Peter Hook. Yes, to many people, it's not really New Order without every one of them. I'm not saying charity excuses things, but if the rest of them had heard that Michael Shamberg was very ill and needed medical treatment that is expensive, and they thought that it would be a good idea to hold charity gigs to raise money to help him (especially when you think that he contributed to their music videos and career), then I don't see anything wrong with that, even if Hooky is not in the lineup.

So what were New Order supposed to do, then? Refuse to get together to hold charity gigs to help Shamberg's medical treatment just because they knew Hooky wasn't going to be involved? Or, like they apparently chose to do, got as many of the original members they could to do a charity gig to raise money for the medical treatment that Shamberg needs. Given how Hooky is busy with JD tours and such, as well as not being on speaking terms with Bernard, the possibility of Hooky participating this autumn would've been low anyway. People who are saying 'it's wrong' and completely condemning the entire situation are missing the point.

Totally agree with your entire post, LG.

Without getting into moral percentages to me Hooky is more than that guy who plays the bass. Like the other members (not Phil, sorry) without his character, personality, sound etc its not quite the same. Although I couldnt disagree with the reasons I was disappointed when Gillian left (the band didnt look quite right without her). A New Order without Hooky is like a New Order without Bernard or Stephen. Diluted. New Order-Lite.

I hope they do these gigs then go back into hibernation/legend.

I understand some of the criticisms about how they are using the name New Order. Some might not feel that it is right. But if there are some people saying the entire situation is wrong; I don't agree with that.

I've not read this thread, but I just want to say that I'll be there and I'm looking forward to it and I'm not overly bothered how Hooky or anyone else feels about it.

I'll be sorry if he's not there, and I'll be sorry if Ramboorleroy isn't there too as I really like him. I'll be glad to see all the old faces. I probably won't bother with any of the dates on the inevitable NewOrderNoHooky reunion tour. But I will buy the album.

There'll be none of that going on, either :nono:

and for your information they can use the name !

Hooky has been living off the JD and NO name for a long time, I suspect that none of the money earned on his "projects" or merchandising ventures have touched the coffers of any member of NO or JD - and this includes Ian's wife, child and ex manager.

In seriousness it's for a great cause, and seeing as I can't travel to watch Bernard dad dance, or Phil rock some more pointed boots, I'll just edit the DVD of Finsbury park and put Chapmans face over Hooky, it'll be a similar experience. Oh and well I suppose I could paste in images of Gillian from time to time.

Peter Hook was a founding member of both Joy Division and new Order, he has a right to benefit from that. What money that may be derived from Peter Hook & The Light, has nothing to do with Joy Division, New Order, ex wives or family. And certainly has nothing to do with you.

He also toured as Peter Hook & The Light, not using the Joy Division or New Order name. 'Unknown Pleasures' was a TRIBUTE to Joy Division and Ian Curtis. You could even go and do it if you like 'TOOT' presents 'Still', only difference is no-one would give a rats arse about you.

If there is a twat here buddy, it's you!
