He's a good musician. I can understand some people not liking him due to overexposure during the mass-commercial "Play" and "18" era but the records he's been releasing since 2005 have been great, understated and wholly non-commercial. Just good electronic music with lots of ambient. I saw him live in Paris in May and it was a great gig
I was always disappointed New Order never got him board as a producer pre-split. Maybe they tried but he was too busy. A Moby/New Order collaboration could have been something special.
I saw Moby perform in the Union Square Barnes and Noble here in NYC this past Wednesday. He talked about his new record and book..
Then Moby busted out an acoustic guitar and was joined on stage by a backing vocalist and a violin player, and they proceeded to play bossa nova versions of Zeppelin's Whole Lotta Love and Sabbath's War Pigs, as well as acoustic versions of Natural Blues and Porcelain, and a few tracks from his new record. It was pretty cool! He seems like a nice fellow.
