I brought this over from the Remaster thread in the hopes that someone can shed some light.
It definitely is a different take; or a different section of the same longer take. The keyboards and bass bits both differ from the previously released version.
I've uploaded 45 second WAV extracts from the beginning of each Low-life bonus CD version:
Salvation (Theme) [2008 Defective LL Bonus CD] Salvation (Theme) [2009 Fixed LL Bonus CD]
Both recorded from my original 320kbps rips so not full quality.
Even so, you can probably tell they're a bit different.
Surely more than the two of us are interested in this.

I have to admit it's not a track I've generally paid much attention to. To be fair, it's not that bad, so I might give them both a whirl for a game of 'spot the difference'.

The "new" alternate mix in question is on the fixed LL bonus disc and not the defective one. The defective disc seems to contain the same version as the '87 Salvation! soundtrack albeit slightly remastered.
I'll drop you a mail re: the lossless copies shortly.

I like Salvation theme. Got the soundtrack CD to the film somewhere, will have to dig it out. Never saw the film though.
yup, just checked them.
i wonder if it's just a different mix, with the keyboards louder in the mix.
or an actual different take..
