Phil - if you look at the credits at the end of 511 dvd you'll see it's referred to New Order as Barney, Stephen and Hooky.

But that is from 2002, or just post Get Ready. Phil was a touring member. But during the development of the WFTSC material Phil was invited to write and record with the band.

Obviously, even if he was a "full member", that wouldn't confer on him the same rights as the rest of the band in terms of exploiting the back catalogue. Hence Peter's quote shortly after leaving:

"You may have two thirds, but don't assume you have the rights to do anything 'New Order-ey', because you don't. I've still got a third! But I'm open to negotiation".

So in 2007 he thought that neither Gillian nor Phil had any legal say in the starting or stopping of any "New Order" project.

And at the time he may have been right...

Phil was made a full time member of New Order in 2004, it was announced on this very site that he would be writing and playing on WFTSC, and that is also when he started appearing in promo photos with the rest of the band. So for the 2001-2002 tour he was just a touring musician but he was invited into the band after that.

Does being full time mean he had an equal creative say as Barney, Steven and Phil? Of course not. Sumner/Hook/Morris still made up the creative core of New Order, and if you were Phil, would you push that? Of course not. Road to Ruin was based around the central guitar riff that Phil wrote, but beyond that, I'd suspect most of the other songs on WFTSC were conceived by Barney, Hooky, and Stevem with Phil adding his guitar parts in. Does Phil even play keyboards in the studio?

Phil has an association with Bernard pre New Order, as he played guitar in the live line up of Electronic in 1997 (or whenever TT came out).

So, New Order now consist of Bernard, Steve, and Gillian, three of the 4 original members, plus Phil, who has been a part of the band or a decade now, and Tom, and I am not sure that Tom is even being listed as a member of the group.

So for Hooky to say that is not New Order is a bit rich for me. I love Hooky and he is entitled to say what he feels, but he quit New Order and the rest carried on. He didn't break up New Order, he left New Order.

How is The Light 'arty'? Arty would be like a sound collage of UP and Wire's 154 or some other seminal post punk alumni joining in. This is just JD as classic rock.
