Just listened to the Salvation version of Touched By the Hand of God...
I like it! A lot more than the more polished version they put out as a single.
It sounds harder and more electronic...

Even though they were released in 1987, the Salvation recordings (alongside the fact that several were played live in 1984-6) seem to me to date from lateish 1985, mostly and were never fully finished. The single seems a complete re-recording to me.

That would be great! I've never seen the movie. It's really hard to find, even in the age of file sharing.
I always prefered the soundtrack version to the single version. I also like the way they nicked the "...by the hand of god" melody from Let The Music Play from Shannon. Now that's a good track

It's probably my favourite version as well. Although the "sound" of it on the CD is really really muddy, almost like it was recorded through a towel. I wouldn't say it's any more or less "electronic" than the 7" and 12" mixes though.
From memory, the Japanese CD contains the "exclusive" mix of Touched By The Hand Of Dub which has a unique intro; a lovely mix and well worth finding. The Canadian CD has the bog standard 12" mix of TBTHOG which was on 'International'.
An odd set of songs NO did for Salvation... most of them sound like they were knocked off in their tea break (and not in a good way) with the exception of TBTHOG and Let's Go. I know a live version of Skullcrusher with vocals is available but the soundtrack version is quite short and aimless.
The Cabaret Voltaire songs on the soundtrack are worth a listen.
Yeah it's basically the live version they were doing in 87 isn't it. Worth owning though.
Yep the 2 Cabaret Voltaire tracks are pretty good. Or from memory they are anyway, not dug the CD out in years
Some of the other artists on the CD are utter dross though
It is basically the live 1987 version, which I've always preferred to the studio version, but this just has a lot of cool little guitar and synth bits in it that aren't in the Arthur Baker version or the live version.

That mix is also on the German Interphon disc. It's basically just Touched by the Hand of Dub with an extra 2 1/2 minutes at the beginning.
The German Interphon-one I own, but I'm not so font of the instrumental version of Let's Go. The audio channels are acting weird at some point in that song.
Although I also like the TBTHOG bonus track on Salvation. Together with the 5-minute version on Salvation, those are easily the best versions of the song.
I'm surprised Let's Go was allowed on the soundtrack in the state it was in. For most of the song the sound is only in one stereo channel and Barney's guitar cuts out completely towards the end. It's a demo version, at best.
It's a shame because Let's Go as a track is really good; that lovely keyboard break while Bernard and Peter jam away furiously in the background is classic.
I am still awaiting the definitive answer to summat that's been bugging me for ages now re: Let's Go on the Salvation! soundtrack.
The snare drum hits that kick off the track I SWEAR are sampled from another previous New Order track, namely Paradise off Brotherhood.
Anybody verify this?? It's exactly the same sound and pitch, so I think it must be.

also, this LP version is a few bpm slower than the 12" single.
i always liked Skullcrusher off that Salvation LP as well.

It's the same snare sample. We know Let's go was originally done for 'Lowlife (with vocals) so the Salvation version must have been knocked over quickly in the studio , whilst recording Brotherhood.
Shame the sound does go all over the place, must try and find out what happened to that one day? Add it to the list of many other things!
The best version of TBTHOG I've heard is the one from the Hacienda rehearsal footage, it's not the full song and no vocals but the music is top.

Indeed - and the version that subsequently appears on the LowLife bonus CD doesn't improve it that much (from memory)... :(
