Some cool news... 24HPP opens this friday here in Portugal and to celebrate it those good people at LUX (Portugal's trendiest club, where the likes of Kruder & Dorfmeister, Air, Dzian & Khamian hang out) are going to stage a huge party with Rodrigo Leão (one of our best musicians) and his friends playing a set comprising only NO, JD and Mondays songs. Sounds good or what? Just one thing: this will happen in Lisbon... some 330 km from me (HUGE sigh!)

Hello Huntsy! Well what exactly are the good news, you ask? Nice question, I don't know either!
Is it just me, or does anyone else think it's rather ironic and cool that NO is popular in Portugal?

I'm dense today...what is so ironic about this??? ![]()
Yes, what's ironic about it? It's not that NO are hugely popular among the masses (our present Top 3 consists of that colombian bimbo on nº 1, James' live album on nº 2 -yes it's true, they're massive here, maybe it has something to do with Saul Davies, their violinist/guitarrist, living among us after marrying a portuguese, and Coldplay at nº 3) but you know that old saying "not a lot of people bought Velvet Underground albums, but everyone who did started a band"? Well here in Portugal you could say that not many people bought Factory's bands' records, but almost everyone either started a band (like Rodrigo Leão who I spoke about in the beginning of this thread) or had a radio/TV show: António Sérgio, our very own John Peel, is a huge NO/JD fan and he had, no, he still has, a lot of influence among our youth (I'm not a kid anymore, but he had a big part in the formation of my tastes) since the early 80's: the name of his radio show is commonly and widely used as a slang for alternative music! So it's no surprise that 24HPP is having a national release (not many NOOLiners can say that about their countries, can they?), courtesy of Portugal's biggest media company- usually they just release your average, formulaic Hollywood blockbuster.
Hence the "cool news" I was talking about...
