It's gearing up to be a proper World tour then.

I'm thinking New Order is coming back to Coachella in April? Hope so.

Agreed. Festivals tend to be expensive than ordinary concerts, then again, that's the way it is. There's a reason why there's 'Ultra Music Festival' in the title of this thread.

Your original post insinuates that New Order are charging $300 for one show, which they're not because it's actually $300 for a three day festival with multiple people on the bill. New Order did not dictate the ticket price nor will they see 100% of that ticket price going into their pockets. That was the base of your attack on "Sumner's NO ethics" and it's been shown to be rubbish.

Grow. A. Brain. Either that or see if the festival offers a day ticket.

They've played Glasto 3 times, same kinda set up, same sort of price (much more in recent years). If its $299 for 3 days, I reckon you'd be in for a bargain and get the chance to check out some bands you've never heard of, philistine.

And BTW, as with the UMF Sao Paulo event, they will probably play only ten songs. If I were you, I would be a grumpy c___ and stay at home.

That's my whole point: the band relies on festivals as a means to minimise expenses on promotion, management, organization, etc., instead of performing solo at clubs and concert venues solely for fans. So anyone who wants to see New Order is compelled to buy an inane festival-price ticket. What an irony: festivals are intended for the massses, but their prices are not.

It's like buying a new New Order CD for $500 and they'll give you for free 100 pre-selected CDs. Would any of YOU buy it? Of course, not. That's the same logic here.

I don't want to be unjust too early: let's see if they'll announce more dates.

If you can see for example 30 bands for $300, it makes an average of $10 to see each band. It's a good value, even for short sets. Another advantage of festivals is to find out new and exciting bands for yourself.

If New Order are playing UMF in Miami then there will probabyl be other US dates...fingers crossed that they play NYC.

I went to UMF in 2009 when I was over for the Winter Music Conference. Average age of attendees is 18-21. Lots of bad drugs and lots of fucked up American kids attempting to 'have it'. It was grim. We lasted a couple of hours before sacking it off. Cant envisage anyone beyond the older industry bods who'll be at it being remotely interested in NO.

As someone who has been to Ultra for the past 6 years let me answer a few things:

It is a 3 day festival of mostly DJs, but the last few years they have added bands. They even had The Cure a few years back, which people still bitch about on electronic music forums. Cut Copy, The Presets, Empire of the Sun and The Ting Tings have played the last few years and given the festival a big boost (for me), but none of them were on a main stage.

Last year Duran Duran and Erasure were added. Almost the entire festival hated Erasure. People were actually running away from the stage as we were storming towards it when they started. I've never seen a stage clear out that quickly.

Duran Duran was just an ok performance (seen them 2 other times) and I think people liked it, but by the time they played people were already moving to the main stage for Tiesto (playing 2 acts later).

The festival has been moved to a smaller location this year due to the city of Miami building a museum on the grounds of the festival. It is actually moving back to where it was for the first 5 years. There is a really nice amphitheater for the main stage. However, when I saw Underworld there at Ultra in 2005 the section that included the amphitheater was closed off for capacity reasons because Paul Van Dyk was on after Underworld. This is the part that worries me about NO playing there. It depends on the schedule, otherwise we will have to park ourselves in the amphitheater for 2 or 3 acts before.

The good news - no way they are coming to the US for one festival, right? I'm in Tampa, Fl and i'm just hoping for at least an Atlanta date. This was the first year I was not going to Ultra, and over the last 2 years I said the only way I would go again would be if New Order reformed and played it. Crazy that its happening and I still might not go.

Plus the show will be shortened due to the festival. I would expect 45 minutes.

If they do Coachella this year, it would be for 2 weekends in a row, as the way this festival is organized this year, the same acts are lined up to play Weekend 1 (April 13-15) and Weekend 2 (April 20-22). Also, during the week in between, acts are expected to be able to play throughout Southern California. Should be really interesting this 2012.

I am moving to Miami tomorrow and what a great surprise that New Order will be at Ultra...but are you saying that I need to get to the stage where New Order will be about two hours before they go on? I really hope that is not the case.

Also I really wish they had one day tickets because I paid $300 plus there is a $70 processing fee plus they charge you $11 to send you the tickets! I only paid because I have never seen New Order before and this may be my only chance (I was too young when they played Detroit in 1989 and I was a poor college student when they came to Chicago in 1993)
