Did you ever misunderstand any NO/JD lyrics?

There's a great site on the web: www.kissthisguy.com, which is a database of misunderstood song lyrics, indexed by songtitle, as well as artist. You can also browse the site, and they'll give you a random lyric. They compile songs from the public, with some often hilarious results. It's one of the funniest sites on the web. Highly recommended!

Anyway, my contribution to the site involving NO/JD will be the following, the first verse of 'Love Will Tear Us Apart': 'When Rudy bites hard, inhibitions are low, and the sentiment rides high, 'cuz the mushrooms won't grow' :o

I think i realized what the song was really saying sometime in the early '90s. I wasn't too embarassed because, fortunately, I hadn't shared my version with anyone else!

Does anyone else have any embarrasing and/or entertaining lyrical misunderstandings?

actually, i thought it was: 'save it for another day, the school girls and the kids have run away' until about 30 seconds ago when i looked at the lyrics page!

i always get the lyrics wrong - and usually get caught out singing them. for example, at finsbury i was happily singing 'here comes love, it's not funny' to crystal. better clean my ears out.
it is quite possible that barney gets them wrong whilst he's recording, as so few seem to make any sense.

:jump: :jump: I got you all beat for the ignorance category lol!

Right at the end of Vanashing Point:

"And they gave it away, like it was some underwear. But by the look on his face, he never cared"

Crystal's chorus:

"I don't know, what to say. You don't give, anyway. I'm a man, in a blaze. Without good. I would trade. Hear comes love. Gets me horny. You can't buy, it with money. You're not at home, anymore. You shot me to the corn" ...seriously!:)

The end chorus for Special:

"Patiently you wait for me You'll survive. I know what could have been Then changed my mind Drowning in the embessey Like all those lies"...

And last but not least, I could've sworn Barney said this on tbthog:

"And I was touched by the hand of God I never knew it, but I curse alot"

The extra verse to SLC:

"I can't look over there, all the miserable eyes When the garden closed in, I nearly broke down and cried"

Where the hell I got that from, I'll never know.....

For ages I thought that 'Regret' went:

'I want success, you see...'

The problem with Barney's lyrics are than often than not misunderstood lyrics are either completely plausible or even improvements on the real thing.

Special has always been for me

It was so special it was like water down the drain and into security every time I hear your name

Sooooooooooo many times, in fact, even the lyrics online here must be full of them.

Since there is no real official source of lyrics, there will always be. Even what they released is inacurate, especially Japanese lyrics, but also in the song books! Temptation lyrics aren't ok, it's supposed to be the Substance song book, but the lyrics are a mix of the original and the 87 version...

One of the worst lyrics to decipher is in Fine time... "At the end, the past doesn't matter", many people think it's "Acid Man" and I've seen a lot of version of that one... since the voice is modified, it's hard to get I must admit it ;)

I've got so many I could never think of them all...

my favorite discussion ever was one a friend and I got into over sub-culture...

I insisted that the lyrics said "a view without a room"...

whereas Ken insisted the words were "a room without a view"..

he whips out Substance, and sure enough, that one does say "a room without a view"...

then we slap in low-life...and it says "a view without a room"...

how many times do you disagree and it turns out both parties were correct...

not trying to be a smarty pants here, but Nic...I just found this one regarding the sub-culture...

your note says the lyrics are from low-life...

and this is what you have...

A room without a view Unveils the truth so soon And when the sun goes up

but it's a view without a room...and when the sun goes down...

I say we all just drink a lot, and forget about the words...they are just there to go along with the music...no?

For temptation, I said '...Tonight I think I'll walk alone, I'll find myself while I go home". I like my version better than 'find my soul'.

There are a million others but most of my mistakes involve making up sounds and fake words becuase I have no idea what's being said.

oh, one more.... Digital: "They in, they out, they in, they out (etc)"

Ah that was the one - my temptation was

"Tonight I think I walk alone, I find my self inside a hole"

But that was probably just associative after a drunken stumble home from the University Pub

BM: "I see a ship in the harbour, i can in shallow bay"

Troofaith: "... somethings got a hold on me, i get this feeling - an emotion, a sudden sense of liberty.."

Ceremony (87): most of it

Transmission: the whole "i would call out.." bit i never could hear right

Regret: "I wouldn't ever trust you..." or is it "I wouldn't even trust you" ? It sounds like he starts singing even and ends up saying ever, so you get "eeever"!

and finally: In that songbook effort with the cross in the front it gives the lyrics to the shellshock chorus as being "DARLING its never enough, never enough.. etc" Surely the lyric is "HOLD ON its never enough..." ?

On Temptation I always heard: "Tonight I think I'll walk alone and find my soul inside a hole"

and...

"Faults from above here the people down below"

Frequently BOTH!! I think Barney adopts 'poetic license' when singing it live!!

It's Bolts from above hit the people down below. Definitively. There is no question about this.

'Love is the air that supports the ego.'

ok, the lyrics page says 'bolts...hit', but i think 'thoughts...hurt' makes more sense. of course it could sound like either one. any thoughts on this?

yeah...well...I thought I heard them say something like this...

Thoughts from above hurt good people down below....

so who the hell knows what Barney really says...he probably can't even remember what lyrics he recorded for this, or any other, song....
