Tempting... Having lived in Vienna, any excuse to go back... The venue is mad - quite literally in an old gasometer... There are 4 in total, one with a concert hall, one with flats, etc.

I think that going to this a week before my kid is due to be born may in fact be the dictionary definition of "pushing one's fucking luck".

eurorail looks best price, circa 350e on a three / four country ticket.
my plan is 17/05 leave UK and come back 21st after Lyon gig (ticket arrived special delivery last Thursday), ball ache of a trip but otherwise looking at least £700 to get flights etc.
alt option is for those doing both from UK is to all chip in and hire a mini bus.

Is it really that dear? I thought you could get a flight to Vienna out of London for ~80 notes, then am sure someone told me there was a Sleazyjet flight to Lyon from there for 40 quid.

I'm planning to do Vienna and back to Blighty, and then Lyon and back to Blighty but attendance at the French gig is dependent on a football result.
looked on a couple of cheap sites and KLM's (only cost £300 for athens in 2006 return) for most UK airports. For me from Humberside to amsterdam then Vienna works out at just over £500 return and same from Lds/Bd, etc. and prices seemed similar for london airports.
then flights to Lyon or using eurostar about another £150 return so makes sense for me to do a rail trip, but if anyone comes up with some cracking prices please let me know either by forum or pm.

New order in vienna makes me post here for the first time in ages. Im definetely going .... If you guys look for a cheaper flight maybe try bratislava or budapest ... Bratislava is 1 hour from vienna by train and budapest 2,5 hours...

Actually, the lad who suggested it was 40 notes between Vienna and Lyon has just emailed saying he's blowing France out cos he can't find any cheap travel.

Norbert any suggestions for southen Germany into Vienna.
From salzburg airport its also only about 3 hours by train and a bit more then 4 hours by train from prag...

Bratislava (Slovakia) is a 40 minute drive from Vienna. Straight bit of motorway. Hunners of budget flights in and out of BTS.
If time is not an issue you could do worse than Interrail.

Definitely the way to go... We used to go to Bratislava every other weekend on the piss, as (back then) it was cheaper to get the train over the border for a session than it was to drink in Vienna...

A girl I know works for a big UK bank with a base in Vienna and all their foreign staff are accomodated in Bratislava for the same reason; rents are a fraction of the price that they are in Vienna despite it being so close. I'd spend the extra few quid to get pissed in Wien though, I find Bratislava a bit grim. Saw Suede there in '92 as it 'appens, when it was still part of Czechoslovakia.

Munich takes about 5 hours i think. Lovely journey.
The only way from Bratislava to Vienna is by boat, down the Danube. Takes a couple of hours but a better way to travel.
Dont go via Budapest, no internet pre booking for the railway and queuing time of 3 hours. Least, that's what we spent. There were 5 people in front of us mind. As some poor traveler had grafittied on the station wall 'communism is alive and well in this station'.

That's always been a tricky leg. Do the Wien trip then save the cash for another one.... Ibiza 
I've also seen flights from London Heathrow To Vienna and back on the 18th and 19th of May are approximately EUR 150 on aua.com
Not too bad Better than all other options going by train from other cheaper airports
Hm... I'm Austrian, have lived there all my life until 2008, and especially in Vienna from 1994 onwards, and only now they come? WTF?
But luckily I saw them in Auckland recently. It was my very first NO gig and probably my last. Had heeps of fun!

Absolutely right! But I didn't live in Vienna in 1984 and I only became a fan.
But I have the recordings Werner Groebchen from the Oe3 Musicbox did back in those days. Five songs, or so were aired in this show.

I was 9 years old in 1984, so no chance for me either
I just saw them once in 2005 at Brixton Academy which didn't impress me that much - the bass was way too loud
For those traveling from UK:
Just had an email from ebookers and offers available from £190.00 each including hotel for one night based on two sharing out of heathrow (18th) to vienna and back (19th), good flight times as well.
Just bought me tickets, I'll be representing the Brazilian Order this year in Vienna.
Hope to see some of the crazy dudes I met at the South America 2006 Tour there.
