HELLO ALL/// I HEARD ON SOME NEW ORDER/BURNARD RELATED SITE THAT THERE ARE PLANS TO MAKE THE /TOUCHING FROM A DISTANCE' BOOK BY DEBORAH CURTIS INTO A "FILM". PERSONALLY SPEAKING// BEING A HUGE JD FAN, AND REALLY BEING ABLE TO FEEL AND GRASP THE FEELINGS THAT ARE JD, I THINK ITS TERRIBLE! THE 24 HOUR' MOVIE WAS VERY ENTERTAINING/// OF COURSE IT WAS// ANYTHING WITH THE LIKES OF JD/NEW ORDER AND ALL THE MUSIC: THE FALL, SOIUXSIE, SEX PISTOLS MAKE FOR GREAT ENTERTAINMENT ESPECIALLY FOR MUSIC FANATICS LIKE US ALL/// BUT MAKING A MOVIE ON THE LIFE OF IAN CURTIS? I THINK IT CHEAPENS IT ALL/// IT WOULD JUST BE ANOTHER PLOY TO MAKE SOME $$$$$$... IF NEW ORDER NEEDS MONEY/// ILL SEND EM SOME// HOW MUCH YOU WANT???? I JUST THINK IT WOULD BE TERRIBLE TO TURN IAN INTO JIM MORRISSON, JIMI HENDRIX, OR EVEN SID>>>>> SOME "UNDERGROUND ICON" TURNED MOVIE OF THE WEEK>>>>> SOME THINGS ARE SACRED PEOPLE!!! JD/IAN ARE MOST DEFINITELY A SACRED GIFT TO US ALL//// SO >>>>DO YOU SUPPORT THIS MOVIE??? HOW MUCH IS JD WORTH TO YOU?

Yeah, I've thought about your perspective on it, Eddie. I read somewhere that Danny Boyle (Trainspotting) was directing it, so it could be really good. The thing about 24 hour party people that made it so good was the fact that it was a Spinal Tap take on Factory. I think it's either going to be excellent or disappointing. Sean Harris did such a great job, I'd hate for some Hollywood big name star to play Ian. Ben Affleck as the tortured Ian Curtis!

I've heard about this a while ago also. I believe the film is tentatively titled Transmission. I believe some directors from New York will be doing the film.

I don't know if i'd call ian 'sacred'. he was only human, just like the rest of us, as his tragic suicide demonstrated. anyway, if this movie IS made, i can definitely see danny boyle directing it. i like his stuff (except for 'a life less ordinary'. crap, that one). or winterbottom could do it. 24 hour party people was terrific! sean harris needs to play ian again, though. perfect performance. or how about james cameron directing with macaulay culkin as ian. haven't seen him in a while. wonder if he can do a manc accent?

Spiderman tobey mcguire kinda looks like IC. But I doubt he can play him.

yeah, i can't picture him doing the 'ian dance'

More a case of being scared than being sacred.....

here's what barney had to say about being in JD: "The experience of being Joy Division was really funny and up, and the whole thing's been coloured by Ian. But we weren't a deep band, which no one will ever see. No records will show that; no films, videos, or anything will ever show that. We used to have a right laugh."

and ian himself: "We haven't got a message really; the lyrics are open to interpretation. They're multidimensional. You can read into them whatever you like. Obviously they're important to the band."

so, i think it's ok not to take it all too seriously then, right?

It's a bit morbid, and may well make more of the myth than anyone would wish to see.

If it did happen, the guy who played Ian in 24 hr PP should definitely play him again.

I am undecided about the idea of focusing purely on Ian.

Give us a Joy Division / New Order Story though;)

I thought the portrayal of Ian in 24 hour party people was overdone, and that guy is a lot uglier than Ian. However, I can see why they did it that way given that they had to squeeze that whole story into 1/3 of the movie. If there is another movie version I hope they give Hannett more of his due (they surely included his excesses and drug habit but forgot to mention that he was a friggin genius and hard working when he needed to be) and spend some time on the period in between the name change from Warsaw to JD and the recording of Unknown Pleasures, where they grew a lot musically. But, where does the story end ? If it cuts off with Ian's death, it isn't complete, is it ? You need the story of how the band perservered and changed, and became a seminal influence for both their earlier and later work, to balance out the tragic portion.

They were young, kicking back and having a laugh - thats all there is too it! as Barney rightly says.

Wow - did you think of this without substances? If you did, I am impressed... and scared

just saw a piece on the culkins in US weekly and the idea popped into my head. no substances involved as i was sitting in the public library :read: and i wouldn't have handled being in there under the control of substances very well...i'm not as brave as hunter s. thompson. and james cameron--he could push that budget to at least $300 million, no questions asked! :deal:

first eddie, let me explain the use of my avatar. as i say in my bio, the first time i heard new order was while listening to the 'pretty in pink' soundtrack, and as the movie has 3 new order songs in it, every time i see molly, she reminds me of NO (although not the other way around), get it?

i don't know why you're picking on me, but i think you should be respectful to people who have alternative viewpoints to your own and understand that there is a lot of irony and sarcasm on this site. read what barney and ian had to say about JD, and any of the other posts on this site, which are generally light-hearted. this is a new order fansite, eddie, not a site to flame others, so if you want to be angry i suggest you do it elsewhere and let us happy and respectful NO fans get on with it. so lighten up and have fun! oh, and don't send me any more mean-spirited personal e-mails, ok? it's just not on. this is my final reply to this nonsense, and please read the community standards at the bottom of the page before posting. :nonono:
