For me it stopped being about the music back when they started doing the same or nearly same set every night, so probably twenty years ago! The social side is way more important than just the gig these days, back in the early and mid 80s you used to see the same people at shows, but more often than not there'd just be a respectful nod and nowt else. Turned out that in 2001 when Jarvo galvanised everything that many of us recognised each other from decades before. I'd seen the likes of ATR and Dec at many a gig over the years without ever knowing who they were and why they were so significant in the history of the band. As for who's in the band or what they play, it doesn't matter anymore. I go to catch up with people and have a few beers, and also to see them play in new places where possible. Pity I'm saving for a wedding in their busiest year since 86!

Thank you for the last few replies. Of course, i was being a bit flippant but your replies quickly made me realise how important that this community is to you...
Just to echo some of the sentiments, I ran into El Jarvo a couple of times- at Kraftwerk in Brixton 2003(?) and LCD Soundsystem also at Brixton. And he was with fellow forum members both times and talked about how many gigs and other events they'd all attended outside of just New Order gigs.
Hats off to you for finding something bigger than the music (if you'll excuse my clumsily hokey phrase).
Look forward to maybe running into a few of you in Birmingham.

i'm still surprised when people can say i've seen x band y times - i havent a scooby i know bands i've seen more than 20, more than 10, more than 5, but exact numbers?
started using songkick to log gigs, so i can tell you i've been to 19 gigs so far this year, but i cant remember half of the older ones
i know that jarvo can tell you what the set list was & what they wore at each gig - it's like he's autistic or something

Doing 2nd Manchester, Birmingham and probably a few European ones too

their hard work of the 80's only got them into touring america more, to pay for the mistakes created by too many parasites, and those tours were drudge, deadly tours. almost killing bernard. the industry does have a way of destroying lives. now, years later ,family and experience keeps tours brief, and the most admired and respected band of all has nothing to be ashamed or embarrassed about. i am happy that they can enjoy their lives more now than ever . bernard and stephen could own a fleet of yachts and ten tank battalions for all i care . they provided us with guaranteed happiness, that just happens to be ongoing and long lasting . i
