An Interview With Peter Hook

Indeed, Hooky should stop giving interviews. Tell it with music if it's so important? Write a song about it etcetera. This is getting boring!

By the way: Does he think that people are going to see 'PH & t L' when he is doing closer or UP? Course not. People think 'there is a part of Joy Division' and enjoy it. Same for the (new) New Order if you ask me. He is spoiling the fun of people who make a lot of effort to see New Order all over the world. And: we are all grown ups, if I want to see New Order only with Peter, then I would just not go to any show, would I?

Do you think it would be worth picketing The Light tribute shows?

Maybe hand out leaflets explaining Hook's deteriorating mental state and that by attending Light shows or worse, his DJ performances, they are only encouraging this desperate behaviour.

I have not attended a the Light gig, but have read that this is largely true. It is difficult for many people, including a certain Mr Sumner, to play and sing simultaneously.

I understand that Hooky prefers to do vocals instead of bass for most of the songs, Rowetta standing in for some.

When Hooky chooses not to play bass, he has a fully trained up stand-in, his son Jack, frequently of this parish and scourge of 'internet hardmen' and 'haters' all over the world.

If I were to pay to see a group with Hooky in it once more, I would want to see him bashing holy f*ck out of his bass and not doing the vocals. (PIMM was quite good though, probably cos he played his bass on the track & someone else mimed it in the video.)

I'd have more sympathy with him if Barney had just started a new band with him, a new drummer, bassist and key/guitarist and called it New Order.

But he didn't. It's Barney and three other members of New Order, plus a new bassist. But beyond that, it's the same road team, the same promoter, the same technicians, etc.

I didn't really want to take a side, but all I know is that everyone associated with New Order in 2006 is back with Barney and Hooky's out on his own. That must say something.

Maybe we could boycott his interviews. If nobody ever bought / clicked 'em he'd have to stop giving 'em.

I've never thought Hooky was a singer or frontman and always though he would've been better suited playing bass for someone like Killing Joke or Primal Scream. But I suppose that wouldn't give the PH 'brand' the same exposure.

He should stay well away from the mic though - I still get recurring nightmares from seeing Revenge in the early 90s with that weird swinging elephant trunk arm.

Also it suggests that the Revenge songs shouldve been as good as the Joy Division songs, because he wrote them too when they patently werent.

I'm bored of all this shit, the problem is people keep interviewing him because he gives them a good story that people keep reading, as said in the interview, if they wind him up first about something the story gets better, you'd think after 30 odd years in the industry he'd realise what they're doing. He needs a spokesman or publicist to do his interviews for him. But then they'd stop asking for interviews.

Or at least he could be careful what he says to the press, because people (at least here) would be talking about it, or asking questions 'why does he think that?/why did he say that' to things that don't make sense.

(Which would mean that some of what he says in interviews might be because of poor memory of the past, or just nonsense/rubbish.)

both bands are touring..

both have something, well a lot to say..

of course they're going to keep getting interviews and talking..

bad publicity is a good or better than no publicity at all..

if everything was cool, we wouldn't even here from them..

but then again, all of them seem to be happy with all the articles and interviews.. compared to the past.. where they were mysterious, and almost never did them..

don't see them changing anytime soon..

Thing is with The Light, they actually do what they do really well. It doesn't feel right with an original Joy Division member in the band, sort of cheapens rather than enriches the experience. Obviously I have nothing against tribute bands. Can you imagine Mark E Smith in a Fall tribute band? (irony alert for Americans.....)

The Light live album does sound brilliant. But it's the sound of a very good tribute band - and by no means should anyone see it as anything more than that.
