As a 15 year old when True Faith came out, I just finished my O levels and remember hearing this played to death on radio 1 and realising that it was New Order. At the time I was pretty surprised to find out that it was a massive hit cos they had never had a hit as big as Blue Monday, and in my eyes back then it seemed that they were forever going to be trying to top THAT particular hit.
I was 12 when BM was in the charts,I first heard of it and New Order when in school a fellow student was tapping out the intro to the song on his desk before class commenced on an afternoon in September 1983, I was intrigued so on my next trip to town I bought it, I used to play it on an old style record player that could play 45's, 33's and 78's. Then for me New Order disappeared only to emerge again in 1987 with True Faith. Sadly the following year New Order released Blue Monday '88 which to me is the moment when the decline began, re-releasing a single 5 years after it had been recorded seemed then and still seems such a Phil Collins type thing to do.
