Damn. First loser I've backed. I'm surprised. It's a brilliant footy song and a brilliant pop song with brilliant lyrics, vocals and melody.
Having increasingly fallen out of love with side 2 of LowLife, it's a surprise vote for WIM...

Wim may be the best football song ever but the competition's not exactly up to much and STYT is a better Neworder song.
World In Motion (albeit a fine football song) is a novelty record, therefore Sooner Than You Think is a clear winner in my eyes.
It's ironic that they meet in battle considering this couplet:
"Your country is a wonderful place It pales my England into disgrace"

Each to their own but it works on different levels for me. I dont hear it as a football song (even John Barnes raps "this aint no football song). its a great pop track with melody and hooks.
STYT is a good song but I dont rate it as great. It sounds unfinished (IMO).

Agreed. I first heard WIM when I was 14 on my Best of New Order cassette. I had no idea it was a football song, and I didn't knwo what the World Cup even was back then.
I just thought WIM was a great pop song with awesome lyrics about being strong in the face of adversity and never giving up! I still think its an inspiring son.
WIM captured the moment when England last had a decent world cup. Perhaps another New Order track to ger England to the semis in 2014.
World in Motion for me, though I knew it was doomed. Sooner than you think was never one of my favorite tracks off of Low-Life.
STYT appeals to me more on an emotional level. But WIM was out when we were expecting our first child so it also has a special place in my heart. I went for the guitar and synth battle after the vocals on STYT. That trumps rap any day in my book.
